MATTHEW B. COVINGTON is an attorney with Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP, where he began practicing in the workers’ compensation defense practice group. His affiliations include the North Carolina Bar Association, Mecklenburg County Bar Association, North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, and Defense Research Institute. Mr. Covington has defended complex workers’ compensation claims and appeared in evidentiary and appellate hearings before the North Carolina Industrial Commission. His notable litigated issues include successful defending against psychological trauma, occupational diseases, repetitive motion cervical conditions, Lyme Disease, N.C.G.S. 97-2(18) disputed hernias, and injury by accident claims. Mr. Covington earned his B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his J.D. degree from the Elon University School of Law where he was a member of the Elon School of Law Moot Court Team, a research assistant and web developer for the Center for Engaged Learning in the Law, and technology director and website designer for the Elon Law Student Bar Association. He currently maintains and publishes articles and case updates on his blog Employer/Employee: A North Carolina Workers/Compensation Blog.

EDWARD L. PAULEY is an attorney in the law firm of Wallace & Graham PA, where his practice includes workers' compensation, civil litigation, OSHA, and personal injury matters. Mr. Pauley has previously lectured to various professionals on issues related to workers' compensation. He is licensed to practice in Kentucky, North Carolina and West Virginia; and before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Pauley earned his B.A. and J.D. degrees from West Virginia University. He is a member of the Kentucky, The West Virginia, and the American bar associations; as well as the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Association for Justice, and the American Association for Justice.

CATHY A. WILLIAMS is an attorney with Levine Law Group, PA, where she focuses her practice in the areas of personal injury, complex litigation, workers' compensation and appeals. She is a member of the North Carolina State Bar Association, the Florida State Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association. Ms. Williams is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Middle and Western Districts of North Carolina. She earned her B.A. degree from Clark University and her J.D. degree from Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad School of Law.
