BRIAN L. CARR is a commercial transactions counsel with GRS Title Services, LLC, a national title insurance agency, where he handles legal issues which arise in underwriting of commercial title insurance and advises attorneys in a variety of title insurance issues. Mr. Carr has worked in the area for commercial title insurance for 20 years. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of Virginia College of Arts and Sciences and his J.D. degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
MICHAEL T. FREEMAN is the managing attorney for the Bankruptcy Department of Samuel I. White, P.C., where his practice areas include bankruptcy, creditors' rights, loss mitigation, commercial and civil litigation, foreclosures, landlord/tenant, evictions, title resolution, and debt collection. His statewide practice focuses on representation of lenders and creditors in Bankruptcy Court, as well as at the state level, including the protection of secured interest, motions and objections practice, and bankruptcy litigation. Mr. Freeman's commercial litigation focuses on resolution of title issues and defects, deficiency actions, debt collection, foreclosure-related litigation, and other matters involving real property. He is a frequent lecturer on topics including bankruptcy, creditors' rights, real estate, loss mitigation and mortgage modifications. Mr. Freeman is a member of the Virginia Bar Association (Young Lawyers Division), City of Richmond Bankruptcy Bar Section, Northern Virginia Bankruptcy Bar Association, Virginia Creditors Bar Association and the Tidewater Bankruptcy Bar Association. He earned his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Elon College (now Elon University) and his J.D. degree from T.C. Williams School of Law, University of Richmond. Mr. Freeman is licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia.
BENJAMIN P. TITTER is the managing attorney for the Newport News office of Shaheen Law Firm P.C., where his primary practice area is real estate transactions, including conducting residential and commercial settlements, reviewing and clearing title issues, preparing settlement documents, and advising clients in all aspects of real estate law. He also handles corporate and business law matters and consults with film and television writers when scripts involve legal plotlines. Mr. Titter is a licensed settlement agent under RESA, a licensed title underwriter, and an area representative for the Board of Governors of the Real Property Section of the Virginia State Bar, where he serves on the Residential Real Estate, Ethics, and the Fee Simple Newsletter committees for the section. He guest lectures in real property classes at Virginia law schools, teaches classes for first-time homebuyers, and frequently meets with real estate agents and brokers to present on relevant legal topics. Mr. Titter has also published articles in The Fee Simple and The Docket Call, the newsletter for the Young Lawyer's Section of the Virginia State Bar. He is a graduate of Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana with a B.A. degree in political science; received his J.D. degree from Regent Law School; and attended the Robertson School of Government where he received his M.A. degree in political management.
EDWARD R. WAUGAMAN is a real estate attorney who practices primarily in the area of real estate law, residential and commercial transactions, title insurance representation, attorney malpractice, and ethics. He is former counsel to several regional and national title insurance companies and agencies Mr. Waugaman has practiced in the areas of title underwriting practices; negotiation and settlement of title insurance claims; conducting and advising on settlement operations, including RESPA compliance; and real estate-like exchange transactions. He is a former adjunct professor for real estate law at Christopher Newport University. Mr. Waugaman earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and State University and his J.D. degree from George Mason School of Law.
