This course has been approved in accordance with the requirements of the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board for a maximum of 7.0 credit hours. 6.0 hours can be applied to the Areas of Professional Practice requirement and 1.0 hour can be applied toward the ethics and professionalism requirement. This nontraditional format program is appropriate for newly admitted and experienced attorneys.
CARL G. ARCHER, CELA, practices exclusively in the areas of Medicaid planning, crisis management, and related fields at Archer Law Office, LLC. He is recognized as a certified elder law attorney by the ABA-accredited National Elder Law Foundation. Mr. Archer was named in 2016 as a New Leader of the Bar by the New Jersey Law Journal, an honor given to only 47 attorneys that year. He served as counsel in M.S. v. Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services, an Appellate Division decision resulting in Medicaid approval for a motorized wheelchair for a hemiplegic nursing home resident. Mr. Archer was also one of three public appointees by the governor to the New Jersey Task Force on Abuse Against the Elderly and Disabled. He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the current secretary of its Elder and Disability Law Section, and a past president of the New Jersey chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. Mr. Archer is a graduate of Rutgers University and Rutgers School of Law-Camden.
DANIEL J. JURKOVIC is a solo practitioner located in Rutherford, New Jersey, whose practice is concentrated in the areas of elder law, guardianship, disability planning and estate planning. He has been granted the title of certified elder law attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation. This certification has been approved by the New Jersey Supreme Court and accredited by the American Bar Association. Mr. Jurkovic earned his B.S.B.A. degree from Thomas Edison State College, his M.S. degree in labor relations from Cornell University and Baruch College, and his J.D. degree and a certificate in health law policy from Pace University School of Law. Recently, Mr. Jurkovic represented the Guardianship Association of New Jersey, Inc. (GANJI) and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys-N.J. (NAELA-NJ) as amicus parties before the New Jersey Supreme Court in the matter of Thomas Saccone v. Board of Trustees, Police and Fireman’s Retirement System, and previously served as lead attorney on the amicus curiae brief submitted to the New Jersey Supreme Court in the matter of In Re Keri. Mr. Jurkovic is a frequent public speaker and has spoken before the New Jersey State and County bar associations, the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education, and numerous local social and civic organizations.
SHANA SIEGEL, Esq., CELA, CAP, is a partner in the law firm of Norris McLaughlin P.A., and chair of their elder law and special needs group. Ms. Siegel is a certified elder law attorney and focuses her practice on representing seniors and persons with special needs and their families in connection with asset preservation, estate planning, supplemental needs trusts, planning for disability, and guardianships. She has also served as an adjunct professor of elder law at Seton Hall Law School. She has been accredited by the Veterans Administration to represent veterans. Ms. Siegel is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey. She received her B.A. degree, cum laude, from Barnard College and her J.D. degree, cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center. Ms. Siegel is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, NAELA’s invitation-only Council of Advanced Practitioners, the New Jersey State Bar Association, and the NJSBA Elder Law Section.
