PHILIP SHOLTZ is an attorney at Goldberg Segalla in its St. Louis office. He is a trial attorney who focuses his practice on representing individuals, corporations, and public entities across a range of civil matters involving civil rights, employment discrimination, municipal liability, and general liability. Mr. Sholtz counsels and defends clients during all stages of the litigation process, from inception through trial and appeal. His practice also involves handling toxic tort and environmental litigation, including radon exposure and remediation, ammonia gas leaks, and exposures and chemical exposures. Mr. Sholtz brings to his practice exceptional trial proficiency and deep civil rights litigation experience from spending several years as an assistant attorney general in the Missouri Attorney General’s Office in St. Louis. While there he took seven jury and two bench trials to verdict, which included catastrophic injury, wrongful death, and class action cases. Mr. Sholtz regularly handled claims arising under 42 U.S.C. §1983 and employment discrimination cases. His experience also includes working on complex civil rights class actions. Those experiences culminated in being awarded the Missouri Attorney General’s Office Excellence in Litigation Award in 2015, in recognition of the outstanding trial results he had achieved on behalf of the state of Missouri. Mr. Sholtz has extensive appellate experience that includes authoring briefs and presenting oral arguments to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Eastern District of Missouri, Court of Appeals. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri, magna cum laude, where he also received his J.D. degree. JACK B. SPOONER is the principal of Spooner Law, LLC, a boutique litigation practice located in St. Louis, Missouri and serving clients nationwide. He has been an attorney for almost 30 years and has been certified as a civil trial advocacy specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Mr. Spooner litigates in all areas of civil trials with an emphasis in the commercial, insurance, and injury practice areas. He is licensed to practice in Missouri, Illinois and Texas; and has participated in numerous jury trials in and around the bi-state area, as well as in federal court. Mr. Spooner also practices before all state and federal courts in Missouri and Illinois, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court, Missouri Division of Workers' Compensation, and the Missouri Administrative Hearing Commission. He is a frequent lecturer on trial practice matters and has spoken to attorneys, as well as paralegal groups on most topics involved in preparing and trying a civil case.
