MARIA K. BREES is an attorney with Brees Law Firm, LLC. She focuses her practice on all the resources necessary to grow and maintain a business from formation to continued support through business development, real estate transactions, and potential disputes. Ms. Brees is also active in the non-profit community. She is a member of the Business Liaison Committee of the Southeastern Chamber of Commerce, providing a resource for both small, local businesses as well as regional industries to interact throughout the entire Southeast. Ms. Brees earned her B.A. degree from Furman University and her J.D. degree from the Charleston School of Law.
TERI K. CALLEN is vice president and director of strategic programs at Chicago Title Insurance Company in Columbia, South Carolina. She is also an adjunct professor at the USC School of Law, having taught both Real Estate Transactions I & II. In addition to her background in commercial real estate transactions, lender representation, title curative work and real property litigation, Ms. Callen is a former commercial lender and former state counsel and senior underwriting counsel for national title insurance underwriters in South Carolina. She utilizes her expansive knowledge of real estate, lending and title insurance to assist title agents in closing transactions while minimizing risk. Ms. Callen is a frequent lecturer and contributing author for continuing legal education seminars relating to real estate law and title insurance for the South Carolina Bar, Palmetto Land Title Association, American Land Title Association and numerous financial institutions, among others. Ms. Callen is past president of the Palmetto Land Title Association, where she has served as chair of its Education and Communications Committee. Ms. Callen received the Gold Compleat Lawyer Award from the University of South Carolina School of Law, an award given to alumni in recognition of their significant contributions to the legal profession and high standards of professional competence, ethics and integrity. She is also AVÂ® Preeminent Peer Review Rated for Ethical Standards and Legal Ability™ by Martindale-Hubbell. She earned her B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of South Carolina.
WENDELL L. HAWKINS is an attorney with Wendell L. Hawkins, P.A., and has approximately 18 years of experience in transactional commercial and residential real estate and civil litigation. He has extensive experience in land development, hotel acquisition and development, mechanics' liens, construction and contract disputes, constitutional takings and due process as related to real property, off premises billboard regulation, foreclosure and appellate work. Mr. Hawkins is a South Carolina Bar certified circuit court mediator. He received his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
