CRAIG F. BALLEW is a principal of the law firm of Ferguson, Schetelich & Ballew, P.A., in Baltimore. He has worked with management in all areas of labor and employment law since 1985. Mr. Ballew has extensive experience speaking and writing for numerous professional groups, including the MICPEL program, on labor and employment topics. He is a former field examiner for the National Labor Relations Board. Mr. Ballew is the co-chair of the Labor and Employment Committee of the Maryland State Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association (member, Labor Section and Committee on Laws), and the Bar Association of Baltimore City. Mr. Ballew earned his B.A. degree from the University of Maryland and his J.D. degree from the University of Maryland School of Law. (Gaithersburg and Hagerstown locations)

DOUGLAS W. DESMARAIS is a partner with Smith & Downey, P.A., in Baltimore, where his practice deals with all aspects of employment relationships. He has a particular emphasis in his practice on educating employers about the many labor and employment laws that govern the workplace, and then helping those employers comply with these laws, thus avoiding costly and time consuming litigation. Additionally, Mr. Desmarais has extensive experience in representing clients before the EEOC, DOL, OFCCP, NLRB, and numerous other federal, state and local agencies and courts. He is also a frequent lecturer on employment-related topics, and he is the editor and coauthor of the first edition of the American Bar Association’s Model Jury Instructions for Employment Litigation. Mr. Desmarais earned his B.A. degree from Brigham Young University; his J.D. degree from the University of Maryland School of Law; and his LL.M. degree, in labor law, from Georgetown University School of Law. ZACHARY ERWIN is a partner with the law firm of Anderson, Coe & King, LLP. Mr. Erwin concentrates his civil litigation practice primarily in the areas of workers' compensation and labor and employment defense. He has extensive experience in Maryland and the District of Columbia representing employers and insurers in workers' compensation cases. Mr. Erwin’s practice also includes defending employers against individual and collective actions raising employment discrimination, employee benefits, and wage and hour claims under Title VII, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. He has vast experience representing employers and insurers in both state and federal court and before state and federal administrative agencies, including: the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, numerous Maryland and D.C. Fair Employment Practices agencies, the Department of Labor, and MOSH/OSHA. Mr. Erwin has been named a Rising Star in workers’ compensation for 2015, 2016 and 2017 by Super Lawyers Magazine.
