TIMOTHY E. COWANS is a partner with the law firm of Scott Scriven LLP, where he practices in the areas of employment law and workers' compensation defense. Mr. Cowans is a frequent speaker and author on employment law and workers' compensation law issues. He was in the first group of lawyers certified as a workers' compensation specialist by the Ohio State Bar Association. He has also been named an Ohio Super Lawyer in the labor and employment law area. Mr. Cowans is a member of the Columbus and Ohio State bar associations, serving as a member of the Workers' Compensation committees. He earned his B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from Ohio Dominican University, graduating first in his class. Mr. Cowans earned his J.D. degree, with honors, from Ohio State University.
CAROLYN DAVIS is an attorney with Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP's labor and employment group. She focuses her practice on matters involving employee hiring and termination, employment agreements, personnel policies, harassment, workplace investigations, ADA, FMLA, NLRA, EEOC, and workers' compensation. Ms. Davis also defends employers' interest in trial, mediation, deposition and agency proceedings. In addition, she provides support for public law matters. Ms. Davis is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Ohio Women’s Bar Association, the Human Resources Association of Central Ohio, the Ohio Council of School Board Attorneys, the Columbus Center of Science and Industry (COSI) Young Professional Board, and the United Way Women's Leadership Council. SHANE M. DAWSON founded the law firm of Dawson & Associates, LLC more than 10 years ago. It has now grown into a statewide practice featuring five attorneys, as well as five paralegals and staff. Mr. Dawson’s experience in workers' compensation began when he worked for the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation in the Special Investigations Department, first as a criminal investigator and later as a fraud analyst. After law school, he joined Arter & Hadden LLP, in Columbus. While at Arter & Hadden LLP, Mr. Dawson practiced in both the workers' compensation and employment law practice groups. He later moved to Thompson Hine LLP, (formerly Thompson, Hine & Flory), and spent nearly five years with the boutique workers' compensation defense firm of Bricker & Maxfield LLC. In addition to more than 25 years of experience with Ohio's workers' compensation system, he has extensive experience handling litigation, including employment matters, non-compete agreements, arbitrations, and intentional torts among others, before administrative agencies, and state and federal courts. In addition, Mr. Dawson is a frequent speaker at seminars on a wide-range of employment related issues. He is a member of the Columbus, Delaware County and Ohio State bar associations. Mr. Dawson earned his B.S. degree from The Ohio State University and his J.D. degree from Capital University Law School.
R. BRENT GAMBILL is a shareholder at Coolidge Wall Co., L.P.A., with more than 30 years in employee benefits, executive compensation, employment, and labor law. He deals with HIPAA privacy regulations, the Family Medical Leave Act, disability, military, and other leaves of absence, as well as drafting executive employment and severance agreements. Mr. Gambill is accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs to advise, counsel, and represent veterans as to claims for VA benefits. His extensive employment and labor law background, coupled with his employee benefits experience makes him adept at resolving human resource problems that involve complexly intertwined with employment, labor and employee benefit issues. Mr. Gambill earned his B.A. degree, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from DePauw University; and his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from the Indiana University School of Law. He is a member of the America, Ohio State, Indiana State, Dayton and Cincinnati bar associations.
STACY V. POLLOCK is a certified specialist in employment and labor law and a certified professional in human resources. Ms. Pollock advises public and private employers in matters involving leave and discipline issues, personnel policy matters, and labor negotiations and arbitrations. When necessary, she defends them in state and federal court. She has experience representing clients before various governmental administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, the State Personnel Board of Review, the State Employment Relations Board and the Ohio Department of Education. Ms. Pollock also advises clients on workers' compensation matters and regularly appears before the industrial commission. She also has considerable experience in education law, representing schools and school administrators involving employee and student disciplinary matters.
