DAVEY JAY is shareholder at Meehle & Jay P.A., in Orlando, Florida. She is also a professional member of the Recording Academy/GRAMMYs and served as the 2017-2018 chair of The Florida Bar Entertainment, Arts, & Sports Law Section. Ms. Jay dedicates her practice to the areas of entertainment and intellectual property law and is licensed to practice law in Florida and admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She has worked on deals with major enterprises such as HBO, Warner/Chappell, Discovery, Telemundo, Sony/Columbia, and Sub Pop, as well as with indies and startups, and has represented Oscar, Grammy, and Emmy winners along with those who are just launching their careers. Ms. Jay has been an educator for over twelve years, most recently as an adjunct professor at Barry University School of Law. In recognition of her professional achievements and community service, she has received a Legal Elite designation from Florida Trend, and was honored as one of Orlando Business Journal's Women Who Mean Business in 2019.
MARK V. JORDAN is an attorney with Bracepoint Law, P.S. Mr. Jordan is the former chair of a major Seattle law firm’s intellectual property practice group and is an expert on commercial and corporate law, intellectual property and international business transactions. He also maintains expertise in formation options for startups and established businesses (including limited liability companies), angel and venture capital investment, and organizational governance. In his career, Mr. Jordan has tried, arbitrated and mediated numerous commercial cases (both plaintiffs and defendants) and practices primarily before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. He co-wrote with Philip A. Talmadge the book Attorney Fees in Washington, published by Lodestar Publishing. He has been appointed a Rule 39.1 neutral by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington and serves as an arbitrator for King County Superior Court. Mr. Jordan earned his J.D. degree from Gonzaga University School of Law and his LL.M. (international and comparative law) degree from Notre Dame Law School. He served as advisory board president of Catholic Community Services - Legal Action Center, Pacific Northwest Blues in the Schools and provides pro bono services to several other nonprofit groups.
RUSSELL SPENCE JR. wields years of experience working with artists, entertainers, media figures and athletes, as well as entrepreneurs and organizations in the creative realm. As a partner at Parker Daniels Kibort and member of the intellectual property, art, entertainment, media and sports law practices, he assists individuals and entities of all sizes on issues including copyright, trademark, patent, trade secrets & right of publicity/privacy; software licenses, software as a service agreement, software and application development agreements, equipment leases, equipment maintenance agreements, confidentiality, non-disclosure and non-solicitation agreements, consulting agreements, and terms of service/terms of use agreements; asset acquisitions, licensing and protection; complex, multi-party litigation, including class-actions; commercial disputes of all varieties; estate counsel & probate litigation. Mr. Spence's extensive litigation experience involves entertainment assets, businesses, talent and their careers. His commercial litigation experience includes shareholder and partnership disputes, infringement actions, class actions, trade secret protection, fraud, unfair competition and even estate or probate disputes. Mr. Spence was named to the Minnesota Super Lawyers list. He is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (the Grammy® organization), the Association of Media & Entertainment Counsel, the Forum of Entertainment and Sports Industries of the ABA, and the Art & Entertainment Section of the MSBA, serving as its chairperson. Mr. Spence was twice elected as president of the Minnesota Music Academy, where he produced the Minnesota Music Awards. He was appointed by Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak to serve and advise on the Minneapolis Arts Commission. He taught college courses in copyright, music publishing and contract law and frequently speaks and writes on business and legal issues, including the evolving entertainment industry and litigation developments. Mr. Spence earned his undergraduate degree from University of Southern California in Los Angeles and his J.D. degree from William Mitchell College of Law.
MATTHEW B. WENZLAU is the founder of the WSE Firm, PLLC located in Nashville, Tennessee and Scottsdale, Arizona. For over 20 years, he has worked in the music, film, entertainment, and privacy/data industries. His body of work includes securitization, funding, and distribution for multi-million dollar motion pictures, production counsel/producer for feature-length films and television shows, and general counsel for Grammy award winning music artists, film stars, influencers, and a diverse array of celebrities. From a business perspective, Mr. Wenzlau frequently handles multiple vendor, distributor, and supply-chain arrangements, which businesses can leverage into their daily operations. He represents clients in private disputes, arbitrations, and negotiations involving entertainment-related matters. His practice also includes legal and branding matters involving federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, including the USPTO, United States Copyright Office, and the SEC. Mr. Wenzlau is a long-time member of the Recording Academy, Gospel Music Association, and the Country Music Association. He earned his B.A. degree from Baylor University, his J.D. degree from Regent University School of Law, and his M.B.A. degree from Arizona State University. Mr. Wenzlau is a member of the Arizona Bar and the Tennessee Bar, and is admitted to practice before the Federal District Court of Arizona and the United States Tax Court.
