This is an Intermediate level program presented in a group live setting. Accountants should have a basic understanding of the unique tax and business consequences of wineries and vineyards. No advanced preparation is required. Upon completion of this course, attendees should be able to: 1. Recall the laws that affect wineries and vineyards. 2. Describe questions to ask when determining best entity type. 3. State two tax issues. 4. Recall which licenses and permits are required for every aspect of the business. 5. Recall how to draft industry-specific contracts and agreements. 6. Describe how to protect brand identity with trademarks and copyrights. 7. State two ethical issues. REBECCA A. BOWMAN is the principal of a certified woman-owned business that has been registered to provide engineering, real estate, legal, and training services with the Commonwealths of Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, Allegheny County, PennDOT, New Jersey Transit, and Port Authority Transit of Allegheny County. She is experienced in employment law, boundary law issues, estate planning and administration, guardianship and conservatorship, engineering design and forensic analysis, construction/project management, dispute resolution, real estate, small business start-up, and nonprofit support. Ms. Bowman is a registered professional engineer. She is also a certified arbitrator and mediator. Ms. Bowman has been an adjunct professor at the Community College of Allegheny County, where she taught small business startups, and at Penn State, where she has taught CPA education seminars. Ms. Bowman is also a lecturer at California University of Pennsylvania. Ms. Bowman is a frequent CPE lecturer (law and engineering) for a variety of providers. She earned her B.S. degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law, her M.B.A. degree from Oklahoma University, and her J.D. degree from Duquesne University School of Law. Ms. Bowman is involved with the National Society of Professional Engineers, American Arbitration Association, Institute for Christian Conciliation, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and the American Bar Association, and is a long-time columnist on risk management for the PE Reporter. NICHOLAS A. MILLER is an attorney with Herron Business Law, where his primary areas focus on litigation, beverage alcohol law, the emerging field of medical and recreational cannabis law, commercial transactions, and employment law. Mr. Miller is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Allegheny County Bar Association.
