RAZIYE ANDICAN is an associate in the Tysons, Virginia office of Smith Currie & Hancock. Ms. Andican joined Smith Currie & Hancock as part of the merger with BrigliaMcLaughlin PLLC, where she also worked as an associate. Her practice focuses on surety defense, real property disputes, and construction litigation, including filing and enforcing mechanic’s liens and representing owners, general contractors, and suppliers in various construction disputes. Ms. Andican received her B.A. degree from The College of New Jersey and her J.D. degree, cum laude, from American University Washington College of Law.
DANNY M. HOWELL is the founding member of The Law Offices of Danny M. Howell, PLLC, a small firm in McLean, Virginia. His practice focuses on insurance coverage, professional liability defense, and commercial litigation at the trial and appellate levels in the state and federal courts in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Throughout his practice, Mr. Howell has represented attorneys in malpractice suits, bar complaints, and federal court disbarment proceedings; corporate officials in negligence actions; and insurers and policyholders in coverage and bad faith cases. His insurance coverage practice focuses on commercial general liability insurance in the areas of residential and commercial construction, professional liability insurance, and directors and officers insurance. Mr. Howell frequently teaches, lectures and publishes on legal ethics, insurance coverage, and risk management for law firms and insurers. He was selected as a 2007 fellow of the National Institute for Teaching Ethics and Professionalism. Mr. Howell earned his B.A. degree from Indiana University and his J.D. degree from George Mason University.
LAUREN P. McLAUGHLIN is a partner in the Tysons, Virginia office of Smith Currie & Hancock. Prior to joining Smith Currie & Hancock, Ms. McLaughlin was a founding partner of BrigliaMcLaughlin, PLLC, a law firm devoted exclusively to construction industry and surety clients. For over a decade, BrigliaMcLaughlin, PLLC, was a recognized leader in construction law. Its' award-winning team of “hard hat” lawyers garnered the attention of Super Lawyers, Chambers, and U.S. News & World Report rankings for its zealous representation of clients in the field of construction. For nearly 20 years, she has represented owners, developers, contractors, subcontractors, sureties, and design professionals in all aspects of public and private construction projects. Ms. McLaughlin received her B.A. degree from Trinity University-Washington and her J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.
SHAWN C. WHITTAKER is the principal in the law firm Whittaker & Associates, P.C., in Rockville, Maryland. His practice focuses on construction, business, collection, and contract law. Mr. Whittaker has provided legal representation to individuals and entities, varying in size from individuals and small entities to international corporations in the consumer, commercial, and government fields. He earned his B.A. degree from Louisiana State University and his J.D. and M.A. degrees from American University. Mr. Whittaker practices in all of the federal and state courts located in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
JOHN P. WILLIAMS is an associate with Protorae Law, PLLC. Mr. Williams is in the firm’s business transactions, construction law and government contracts practice teams. An experienced corporate attorney, Mr. Williams' practice focuses on guiding companies through complex business transactions, including drafting and negotiating ownership agreements, professional service agreements, and real estate development contracts. He has extensive background strategically advising businesses and business owners on mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations and restructurings, and executive compensation matters. He is also fluent in Spanish, and has experience advising on transactions requiring Spanish fluency. Mr. Williams received his B.A. degree from Virginia Tech and his J.D. degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. Mr. Williams is a member of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section and enjoys volunteering with the Small Business Brief Advice Legal Clinic sponsored by the D.C. Bar.
