John W Madden IV(ret.) Judge Madden obtained his J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law. He began his career as a prosecutor with the Denver District Attorney's Office, but after close to a hundred trials, he transitioned to a civil practice. He then spent more than a decade in a civil trial firm that specialized in litigation, including both plaintiff and defense work. There he handled cases in construction defect, oil and gas, trade secrets, trade dress, commercial disputes, computer software rights, dealership determinations, products liability, personal injury, residential medical treatment, antitrust, and governmental complaints, of varying sizes from two-party litigation to multi-party litigation to class action lawsuits. During that time, he participated in numerous mediations representing both plaintiffs and defendants. Thereafter, he was appointed as a judge in the Denver District Court, and he spent almost fifteen years on the bench. As a judge he presided over a wide variety of cases, including domestic matters, personal injury cases, and complex civil cases. He also conducted court ordered mediations during that time.
Judge Madden now works at JAMS in Denver - conducting mediations, arbitrations, special master proceedings, and Title IX hearings. He mediates matters not only from Colorado but also from other jurisdictions and conducts mediations both in-person and remotely. He has mediated cases involving personal injury, property disputes, water rights, construction defects, commercial disputes, business contracts, oil and gas, easements, governmental disputes, homeowner association disputes, commercial leases, intellectual property, civil rights, licensing, probate matters, trusts, and other issues.
