SHAWN A. ELPEL is senior underwriting counsel for Stewart Title Guarantee Company in Seattle, Washington, and holds more than 20 years of combined legal experience in the commercial real estate and title industry. Mr. Elpel has provided commercial underwriting support on numerous multi-site, high liability transactions, which involve the disposition, acquisition, and financing of real estate transactions. While in private practice, Mr. Elpel represented corporate, institutional, developer, and contractor clients in complex real estate transactions. He also litigated construction law and mechanic’s lien disputes, which included arguing cases in front of both the Washington and Oregon state court of appeals. Mr. Elpel is a frequent presenter and lecturer for continuing legal education and real estate seminars. He is certified by the Washington Department of Real Estate to teach in the areas of real estate law; taxation; real estate sales & marketing; real estate practices; real estate fundamentals; real estate finance; real estate closing practices; principles & essentials, legal aspects of hazardous waste and other environmental issues; ethics & standards of practice; current trends & issues; and construction & land development. Mr. Elpel is licensed to practice law in Washington, California, and Arizona. He graduated, cum laude, with his Juris Doctorate degree from Gonzaga University; and he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in communications, minoring in political science, from Eastern Montana College.
