DAVID M. BENJAMIN is a sole practitioner with the Law Office of David M. Benjamin in Aurora. As an attorney for more than 33 years, he maintains a general practice with a focus on representing local governments. Mr. Benjamin teaches local government law and land use planning at the University of Akron School of Law and he teaches land use policy for Hiram College. He earned his A.B. degree from Boston University, his M.P.A. degree from the University of Akron, and his J.D. degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
DEAN DePIERO was appointed law director of Aurora on January 1, 2014. As law director, Mr. DePiero serves as legal advisor and attorney to the mayor, city council, all administrative departments, commissions, and boards. In addition, the law director drafts legislation, renders legal opinions, reviews all city contracts, and is the city prosecutor. Mr. DePiero has served of counsel within the Cleveland Law Firm of McDonald Hopkins since 2005, where his focus is in municipal law, government affairs, real estate law, and receivership law. He currently serves on the Parma Community Hospital Foundation Board and the Cuyahoga County Public Library Board of Trustees. Mr. DePiero is a member of the Northern Ohio Law Director's Association, Ohio State Bar Association, and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. He graduated from Ashland University, as well as the Cleveland Marshall College of Law.
ROBERT A. ZIMMERMAN is a partner in the law firm of Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff LLP, and chair of the firm's public law practice group. As a civil trial and appellate lawyer with more than 25 years of experience, Mr. Zimmerman has litigated cases involving employment discrimination, wrongful discharge, unfair competition, defamation, breach of contract, real estate, landlord-tenant, zoning, land use, constitutional rights, elections, trusts, business, and commercial law. Complementing his litigation practice is his government relations practice. Mr. Zimmerman is a member of the Shaker Heights City Council. He served in the administrations of Governor Richard F. Celeste and Attorney General Anthony J. Celebrezze, Jr. and Lee Fisher. He is licensed to practice in Ohio, as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, U.S. District Court for the Northern and Southern districts of Ohio, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Mr. Zimmerman is a member of the American, Ohio State, and Cleveland bar associations. He earned his B.A. degree, cum laude, from The Ohio State University and his J.D. degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
