DAVID AVAKIAN is a partner with Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP, where he focuses his practice in the area of general liability, product defect, transportation, hospitality and commercial litigation. Mr. Avakian has experience handling complex insurance, commercial and product litigation matters. He is admitted to practice in Nevada and before the United States District Court for the District of Nevada and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Avakian is a member of the State Bar of Nevada. He earned his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Tulane University and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from William S. Boyd School of Law. Mr. Avakian has been a Mountain States Super Lawyer since 2015.
JACK P. BURDEN is a shareholder in the law firm of Backus, Carranza & Burden, and is a litigation attorney with practice emphasis in general liability, product liability, food liability and commercial matters. His clients range from Fortune 200 companies to local business owners in Nevada. Mr. Burden is admitted to the State Bar of Nevada; the U.S. District Court, District of Nevada; and the U.S. Supreme Court. He currently serves as an author of the State Bar of Nevada Jury Instructions. He is also active in the State Bar of Nevada’s Continuing Education Committee and the Canyon Springs High School Advisory Board. Mr. Burden earned his B.S. degree from the University of Nevada, Reno's Reynolds School of Journalism, and his J.D. degree from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas.
DR. KEVIN L. KALDY is a chiropractic physician with The Las Vegas Pain and Wellness Center, where he is a board-certified chiropractic sports physician and is one of only a few chiropractors certified to practice manipulation under anesthesia. Dr. Kaldy is also certified by the Spine Research Institute of San Diego in whiplash and brain traumatology. He is currently finishing a diplomate specialty in rehabilitation and finalizing a research project on manipulation under anesthesia. Dr. Kaldy holds a community faculty appointment to UNLV School of Medicine as a clinical assistant professor in the Office of Medical Education. He is a member of the American Chiropractic Association, the Nevada Chiropractic Association, and is the current secretary for the Nevada Chiropractic Counsel. Dr. Kaldy earned his B.S. degree from the University of California-Davis and his Doctor of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic-West.
DR. NORTON A. ROITMAN, MD, is a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist who has been certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in two specialties. Dr. Roitman has been practicing civil and criminal forensic psychiatry since 1991, well before the APA, his professional association, authorized forensic fellowships were developed. In 2018, he was designated a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Roitman earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois School of Medicine, and completed his residency and federally granted psychopharmacology research fellowship at the University of California, San Diego. He completed fellowships in administrative, and child and adolescent psychiatry, at Reiss Davis Child Study Center, now affiliated with UCLA. Dr. Roitman has examined thousands of subjects for IMEs and NRCP 35 psychiatric examinations, court referred juveniles (DJJS), personal injury plaintiffs, criminal defendants, and persons referred for competency and guardianship determinations. He has testified in district and federal courts in Nevada, Oregon and California, and has worked with public and private counsel. Dr. Roitman maintains a limited private practice and treats his patients with psychotherapy, psychopharmacology or both, based on their needs. He teaches medical students and psychiatric and family practice residents as a clinical professor of psychiatry at UNR and UNLV schools of medicine. Dr. Roitman was recruited in 2017 to serve as vice chairperson of the Faculty Counsel that is responsible for the oversight and the development of the Roseman College of Medicine faculty. He has been repeatedly selected as a TOP psychiatrist by his medical peers and has appeared on television and radio.
PAUL A. SHPIRT is a partner at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP. Mr. Shpirt focuses his practice in the area of general liability, hospitality and insurance defense with a focus on catastrophic injuries, spinal surgery, traumatic brain injury and fatality. He is also involved in handling complex commercial carrier automobile accidents, including the defense of taxi cab, limousine and bus companies. Mr. Shpirt is admitted to practice in Nevada and before the United States District Court for the District of Nevada. He has tried a number of complex jury trials, ranging from a single day to eight weeks, including complicated traumatic brain injury and catastrophic injury cases. Mr. Shpirt earned his B.A. degree from Golden Gate University and his J.D. degree from the Golden Gate University School of Law.
