MELISSA ABU-ADAS is an attorney with the Brogan Law Group. She currently practices in the areas of trust and estate planning, Medicaid planning, Medicaid applications, estate administration, special needs planning, and guardianships. Ms. Abu-Adas served as a law clerk in the Appellate Division for the Honorable Victor Ashrafi, J.A.D. She has lectured for National Business Institute, New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the Ocean County Bar Association. Ms. Abu-Adas is the president-elect of the New Jersey Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, where she also serves as the chair of the Legislative Committee and previously served as secretary and vice president. She is also a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association's Elder Law & Disability Section. Ms. Abu-Adas earned her undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, from Drew University and her J.D. degree from Rutgers School of Law - Newark.
STEPHEN B. KEOGH is a partner in the Norwalk law firm of Keogh, Burkhart & Vetter, practicing primarily in elder law and probate law. A magna cum laude graduate of Yale College, Mr. Keogh earned his J.D. degree from Columbia University. He is a member of the Fairfield County, Connecticut and American bar associations; and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. Mr. Keogh is a member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, a member of the Executive Committee of the Elder Law Section of the Connecticut Bar Association, and a past co-chair of the Elder Law Section of the Fairfield County Bar Association. He is also a member of the Community Bioethics Forum, which is sponsored by the Program for Biomedical Ethics at the Yale School of Medicine, and was the first recipient of the Glenn E. Knierim Pro Bono Award, given by the Connecticut Probate Assembly, in April 2012.
THOMAS J. MURPHY is an attorney located in the Ahwatukee area of Phoenix. His practice emphasizes estate planning, elder law (including nursing home issues), all probate matters (including contested matters and guardianships), and tax controversies. Mr. Murphy has regularly appeared before the Arizona Court of Appeals, litigating many of the cutting-edge appellate cases in probate law, and has successfully litigated cases in the U.S. Tax Court, the Arizona Tax Court, and the Arizona Board of Tax Appeals. He has represented clients before all levels of the Internal Revenue Service and the Arizona Department of Revenue. Mr. Murphy is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the State Bar of Arizona (Tax Law, Probate and Trust Law, Mental Health and Elder Law sections), and the Arizona Medicaid Planning Council. He has served on numerous state and county bar association committees, and was selected as the state bar representative to the Arizona Supreme Court's Committee on Reform of Lower Jurisdiction Courts. Mr. Murphy has testified as an expert witness in cases before the Maricopa County Probate Court regarding probate practices in Arizona. He serves on the Advisory Board of the Phoenix Tax Workshop and the Editorial Board of NAELA News. Mr. Murphy has been published in many national, state and local professional journals, writing on a wide variety of legal and tax matters. His articles on the impact of the new HIPAA regulations on health care powers of attorney and related documents have garnered him wide recognition as one of the nation's foremost authorities in this field, and he has been invited to speak before many organizations. Mr. Murphy graduated from Tufts University, with honors, and he earned his J.D. degree from Suffolk University Law School.
