Amanda Stone Ph.D. a senior biomechanist specializing in injury biomechanics. She has firsthand experience through her focus on injury mechanisms and associated injury tolerances, a process of analyzing the kinematics and kinetics of the human body during a specific event. Dr. Stone also has prior experience conducting research on ACL injury and running biomechanics. While at the University of Florida, she focused primarily on cognition and biomechanics following a lower extremity injury. During her time at UF, Dr. Stone examined gait mechanics in persons with neurological diseases. In addition to her education, she received extensive training on the neurological and biomechanical factors that contribute to locomotion and locomotor adaptation. During her postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Stone's work concentrated on preserving and enhancing mobility in persons with foot and leg impairments, including ankle osteoarthritis, diabetic neuropathy, and painful flat foot. This background in biomedical principles, physics, and human anatomy has provided knowledge of human functional capacities in healthy and pathologic populations. As a research associate at the University of Washington's Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Stone published her findings about the clinical benefit of prism adaption, and how it provides a means of investigating the organization of the sensorimotor system. In her published work, she noted that reconstructed individuals performed tasks similar to the control group when vision was perturbed. Dr. Stone's work also found that reconstructed individuals were able to effectively cross-calibrate sensory systems.
