Thomas Abbott For nearly 15 years, Thomas Abbott has defended bank and nonbank financial institutions in individual and class action litigation filed under federal and state consumer protection laws including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). Licensed in Oregon, Washington, and California, he regularly represents clients in actions across the United States. His practice is informed by a thorough knowledge of his clients’ business practices, industry, systems, and records. Through this understanding, he can better assist clients in avoiding litigation and, when necessary, defending them in individual and class-action disputes. His recent successes in defense of class actions include obtaining summary judgment, dismissal on motion to dismiss, voluntary dismissal, and favorable settlements. In individual litigation, Mr. Abbott has defended clients in trials and appeals. He also regularly defends clients in state and federal financial regulatory proceedings and examinations. In a recent HUD investigation, he successfully obtained a no action letter. Mr. Abbott received his BA from State University of New York and his JD from Loyola Law School.
