What are WA MCLE requirements?

UPDATED MCLE REQUIREMENTS IN RESPONSE TO THE CORONAVIRUS: The due date for reporting MCLE credits earned in the 2018-2020 compliance period has been extended by one year. Lawyers must earn their credits by 12/31/2021 and complete the certification of their credits by 2/1/2022. As part of this extension, lawyers are authorized to carry over an additional 15 credits towards the next reporting period for a total of 30 carryover credits, 4 of which may be ethics.

The next reporting period will be a shortened two year reporting period: 2022-2023.

Washington attorneys are required to complete 45.00 credit hours every 3 years.

What are WA MCLE specialty credit requirements?

Specialty credits may be taken in any format.
Legal Ethics: 6.00 credit hours (required) Law and Legal Procedure: 15.00 credit hours (required) defined as legal education relating to substantive law, legal procedure, process, research, writing, analysis, or related skills and technology.

Effective September 1, 2022, licensed legal professionals must complete at least 1.0 ethics credit on the topic of equity, inclusion, and the mitigation of both implicit and explicit bias in the legal profession and the practice of law during each 3-year reporting period. This does not increase the total number of ethics credits required.

When is the WA MCLE compliance deadline?

December 31st

How do I report my WA MCLE?

Live Seminar:

NBI, Inc. will report your credit to the Washington State Bar Association. A Verified Certificate of Completion will be sent to you. Please retain for your records.

Self Study:

Attorneys are responsible for tracking and reporting their own CLE credits. A Verified Certificate of Completion will be sent to you.

Submit your credit to the Washington State Bar Association at www.mywsba.org and reference the course approval number. Please retain the Verified Certificate of Completion for your records.

What are WA MCLE requirements for newly admitted attorneys?

Newly admitted lawyers, LLLTs and LPOs are exempt from earning CLE credits for the calendar year of admission.

What is allowed for Self-Study credit?

All 45.00 credit hours may be earned with Self-Study activities.
