Iowa CLE Requirements
What are IA MCLE requirements?
UPDATED MCLE REQUIREMENTS IN RESPONSE TO THE CORONAVIRUS: On Aug. 28, 2020 the Iowa Court made a permanent change to CLE Requirement Rule 41.3(3), eliminating the 6 hour cap of Unmoderated Activities.
Iowa attorneys are required to complete 15.00 credit hours every year. All credits may be earned using Moderated Activities and Unmoderated Activities.
What are IA MCLE specialty credit requirements?
Specialty credit hours may be taken as Moderated Activities or Unmoderated Activities.
Legal Ethics: 1.00 hour devoted exclusively to the area of legal ethics.
Attorney Wellness or Diversity/Inclusion: 1.00 credit hour must be devoted exclusively to the area of either Attorney Wellness or Diversity/Inclusion.
When is the IA MCLE compliance deadline?
December 31st
Beginning 01/01/2021: The 15 hours required must include a minimum of 1.0 hour devoted exclusively to the area of legal ethics and 1.0 hour devoted exclusively to the area of either Attorney Wellness or Diversity and Inclusion.
How do I report my IA MCLE?
Attorneys are responsible for tracking and reporting their own CLE credits.
A Verified Certificate of Completion will be sent to you. Please retain for your records.
At the end of your reporting period submit your Annual Report directly to the Iowa Supreme Court Commission on CLE.
What is allowed for Unmoderated Activities credit?
Maximum 15.00 credit hours. "Unmoderated Activity” means a CLE activity presented by delayed or on-demand transmission or broadcast, which has an interactive component and is approved by the commission.
