DANIEL G. COHEN is an attorney at Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, PLLC. Mr. Cohen concentrates his practice on representing employers exclusively in the areas of labor law and employment litigation. He has practiced in this area since 1988. A large part of his practice involves the assistance of human resource professionals with the administration of workplace policies and procedures with an emphasis on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), discrimination and harassment, wage and hour issues, discipline and discharge planning, and employee benefits. Mr. Cohen has written and lectured extensively on various employment law issues. He has spoken to Congressional staff members through the American Bar Association on the topic of federal employment and labor legislation, and has addressed the ABA National Meetings on the FMLA and its interplay with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Mr. Cohen has conducted a number of management training courses for organizations, including the American Bar Association, Public Risk Management Association ("PRIMA"), the Michigan Department of Transportation, the Michigan Forensic Center, the Ann Arbor Board of Education, the American Society of Industrial Security, the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, the Council on Education, the Michigan Auto Dealers Self Insured Fund, and the Michigan Plastic Processor Association. He earned his B.B.A. degree from Eastern Michigan University and his J.D. degree from George Washington University.
THOMAS S. FREDERICKS is an attorney with public and private sector experience in labor and employment law, and serves as corporate counsel and human resources manager for manufacturers. He has litigated over 200 labor/employment law cases, writes employee handbooks, and has negotiated labor agreements with many unions. Mr. Fredericks serves the Michigan Chamber of Commerce as seminar leader and author of the Chamber's book, Manage Employee Electronic Use. He is an adjunct professor teaching business law, labor law, administrative law, and alternative dispute resolution; and has decided over 1,000 cases as an administrative law judge. Mr. Fredericks represents clients in commercial and industrial property tax appeals. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan. He received his B.A. degree from Michigan State University and his J.D. degree from Thomas Cooley Law School.
ROBERT HOWARD is an attorney with Bos & Glazier, P.L.C., where he practices in the areas of employment law. Mr. Howard served as a law clerk for the firm during his studies at Western Michigan University's Cooley Law School, where he received his J.D. degree, cum laude. He received his B.S. degree from Grand Valley University. Mr. Howard is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Grand Rapids Bar Association.
TODD R. KNECHT, of Knecht Law, PLC, in Grand Rapids, has more than 30 years of experience in the field of complex commercial litigation and employment-related disputes. He specializes in the representation of businesses and management, counseling employers on sensitive employee disciplinary issues; assisting with establishing and updating legally compliant personnel policies; defending management against employment-based claims in the state and federal courts and administrative tribunals; and protecting trade secrets from disclosure to competitors. Among other jurisdictions, Mr. Knecht is admitted to practice in the Michigan Court of Appeals; the Michigan Supreme Court; the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western districts of Michigan; the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern and Western districts of Michigan; and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit. He has been a speaker and author on a variety of labor and employment law issues. Mr. Knecht earned his B.A. degree from Hope College and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Detroit School of Law.
IAN NORTHON is an attorney with Rhodes McKee PC, where he practices in the areas of employment and civil litigation. Mr. Northon handles employment disputes for businesses and non-profits including terminations in the c-suite, trade secret injunctions, and non-compete cases; defending pension and health care plans; and protecting organizations from harassment and discrimination claims. He also has more than a dozen civil trial wins and has represented victims of fraud, embezzlement, and sophisticated financial schemes, including defending trusts, the elderly, individuals, or charities and tax-exempt entities. Mr. Northon is a member of the Federalist Society, the State Bar of Michigan, The Florida Bar, and the Pennsylvania Bar Association. He received his B.S. degree from Hillsdale College and his J.D. degree from Ave Maria School of Law.
