HON. RUSSELL M. CLAWGES JR. is a circuit court judge of the 17th Judicial Circuit. He was appointed circuit judge on January 10, 1997, elected to complete the unexpired term in November 1998, and re-elected to full terms in November 2000 and November 2008. Prior to serving on the bench, he was a partner in the Morgantown law firm of Furbee, Amos, Webb & Critchfield and served as an adjunct lecturer in trial advocacy at the West Virginia University College of Law. Judge Clawges earned his B.A. and J.D. degrees from West Virginia University. He is currently an adjunct faculty member in forensic and investigative science at West Virginia University HON. PHILLIP D. GAUJOT is a circuit court judge of the 17th Judicial Circuit. Judge Gaujot was appointed to the bench in 2009 by Governor Joe Manchin. Prior to taking the circuit court bench, he practiced law in West Virginia for 38 years and has served as administrative law judge for Workforce West Virginia for eight years. He was an assistant attorney general from 1971 to 1974 and then worked as a solo practitioner in Charleston and Morgantown. Additionally, Judge Gaujot served as general counsel for the city of Nitro for 18 years, the city of Shinnston for eight years and for the sheriff of Kanawha County. He earned his B.S. degree from West Virginia University and his J.D. degree from the WVU College of Law. HON. JAYMIE GODWIN WILFONG took office as a circuit judge in the 20th Judicial Circuit of Randolph County on January 1, 2009. Judge Wilfong graduated from West Virginia University College of Law in 1995 and began practice in Elkins at Cardot Law Offices. She also began teaching classes part-time at Fairmont State College in 1995, in business law, business investments and criminal procedure. She mainly taught classes in the evening at the Randolph County Vocational Center, but she also taught classes at the federal prison in Morgantown and at Huttonsville Correctional Center. In August 2000, Judge Wilfong opened her own law practice, where she concentrated in family law and criminal defense. She worked for a short period of time as a part-time assistant prosecuting attorney in Upshur County. Judge Wilfong was elected as Family Court judge for Randolph, Tucker and Grant Counties and served in that capacity from 2003 to 2008. HON. DAVID W. HUMMEL JR. is chief judge of the Second Judicial Circuit. Judge Hummel was sworn in on December 11, 2008. Prior to taking the bench, he practiced as a sole practitioner until his election in November 2008. Additionally, he was an assistant prosecuting attorney in Marshall County from 2003 to October 2008. He earned his bachelor's degree in business management from Marshall University and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from University of Oklahoma College of Law, where he graduated with distinction. MODERATOR - STEPHEN R. BROOKS is a member of the law firm of Flaherty Sensabaugh & Bonasso PLLC, where his areas of practice include medical negligence defense litigation; commercial litigation; education law and litigation; and general corporate law. Mr. Brooks is a member of the Marion County Bar Association (past president); the Monongalia County Bar Association; the American Bar Association; the Defense Research Institute, Inc.; the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia, Inc. (past director); The West Virginia State Bar (Law and Medicine and Continuing Legal Education committees); and he also is a grader of the Multistate Essay Examination for the West Virginia Board of Law Examiners. Mr. Brooks earned his B.S. degree from West Virginia University School of Pharmacy and his J.D. degree from West Virginia University College of Law.
