THOMAS M. HANCOCK is an associate with Bowles Rice McDavid Graff & Love LLP, where he concentrates his practice in the areas of toxic torts, deliberate intent, products liability, insurance coverage and insurance bad faith. HINERMAN is an attorney for the Office of Disciplinary Counsel for The West Virginia State Bar, where she practices in the areas of investigations of allegations of violations of the Rules of Professional Conduct. For the last four years, Ms. Hinerman has taught numerous continuing legal education seminars for The West Virginia State Bar, the West Virginia Continuing Legal Education and several local bar associations. She mainly has spoken on attorney ethical obligations under the Rules of Professional Conduct. Ms. Hinerman earned her B.A. and J.D. degrees from West Virginia University. She is a member of the American Inns of Court and the American Bar Association. AMY L. ROTHMAN is an attorney in the health care group at Flaherty Sensabaugh Bonasso PLLC in Charleston, West Virginia. Her practice is primarily focused on medical malpractice defense litigation. Ms. Rothman provides legal counsel to a variety of health care clients, including hospitals, physicians and nurses. She has successfully tried several cases, all to defense verdicts. In addition, Ms. Rothman also represents health care providers before various state licensing boards and advises clients on compliance with state and federal statutory and regulatory issues. She has written several articles on various health care law topics, including an article on the false claims act published by the West Virginia Defense Trial Counsel. Ms. Rothman has lectured before the West Virginia Health Information Network and the West Virginia Office Managers Association. In 2008, she was a guest lecturer at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany. Ms. Rothman earned her undergraduate degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and her J.D. degree from West Virginia University's College of Law. While at West Virginia University, she served on the National Mock Trial Team. L. MICHELLE SHAMBLIN is an executive paralegal to the managing attorney of James F. Humphreys & Associates, L.C. She mainly deals with toxic torts, tobacco litigation and asbestos litigation. Ms. Shamblin is a former instructor at West Virginia Junior College, where she taught effective speaking. She earned her R.B.A. degree from West Virginia State University, her associate's degree from West Virginia State University, her master's degree from West Virginia University, and holds a certificate for executive leadership strategies from the University of Notre Dame. Ms. Shamblin also is a STARS certified trainer for the state of West Virginia. Ms. Shamblin is a member of the American Association for Justice. RUTH SHEFF is a litigation paralegal with Steptoe & Johnson PLLC, with more than 30 years of experience in the legal profession. She assists in the firms litigation and business departments, where her areas of concentration in the firm include litigation (plaintiff and defense); interviewing and locating witnesses; obtaining written and oral statements; summarizing depositions and other documents; preparing discovery requests and responses; obtaining and analyzing bank, employment/personnel, medical and insurance records; witness investigations; trial preparation, including preparation of exhibits and jury research; preparing and assisting with preparation of pleadings; conducting lien and UCC searches; and registering foreign judgments. Ms. Sheff earned her degree in legal studies from West Virginia State College and attended Marshall University's Paralegal Program. She is the program director and volunteer for Kanawha County CASA Inc., a court appointed special advocate for abused and neglected children in Kanawha County, and the secretary/treasurer of the board of West Virginia CASA. BRANDY K. SIMPSON is an attorney with Offutt Nord, PLLC, where her main areas of practice are medical malpractice, legal malpractice, products liability, toxic torts, personal injury, insurance coverage, insurance bad faith, motor carrier liability, commercial litigation, workers compensation and healthcare law. She is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, The West Virginia State Bar, American Bar Association and Defense Research Institute. Ms. Simpson earned her B.A. degree from Indiana University and her J.D. degree from the University of Dayton School of Law. DEANNA R. STONE is an attorney with Goodwin & Goodwin, LLP, where she represents clients in civil litigation throughout the state, including tort actions, commercial disputes and insurance coverage matters.
