RICHARD J. CAYO is president of the Milwaukee law firm of Halling & Cayo, S.C. A large portion of his practice consists of defending lawyers in discipline matters, advising law firms on ethics and malpractice issues, and testifying as an expert witness on lawyers' professional responsibility. Mr. Cayo has been a frequent author and speaker on lawyers' professional responsibility. He earned his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin. Mr. Cayo is a member of the Milwaukee Bar Association (Board of Directors 1995-98), the State Bar of Wisconsin (Litigation Section, Board of Governors 1992-99) and the Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers, where he served as an associate editor of its quarterly magazine, The Verdict. He has been a member of the National Organization of Bar Counsel, the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers and has served on the State and Supreme Court Committees to review the Model Rules of Professional Responsibility. STEPHEN P. HURLEY is an attorney at Hurley, Burish & Stanton, S.C. Mr. Hurley's 39 years of practice provides clients with the background necessary to litigate complex cases. He practices before agencies, state and federal courts, and has successfully represented clients at all stages: from pre-suit or pre-charging negotiations, through appeals before the appellate and supreme courts. Various bar associations frequently request Mr. Hurley to lecture on evidence, trial advocacy and criminal defense topics. Since 1989, he has been an adjunct professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School. Mr. Hurley was recently profiled by Isthmus magazine in a cover story titled "Hurley for the Defense." In addition, the American Bar Association Journal had a feature article on his recent victory on behalf of a client. He is the author of "Can Defense Counsel Ethically Breach a Plea Agreement?" Wisconsin Defender, June 2005. Mr. Hurley is admitted to practice in Wisconsin and Illinois, and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, and the Northern District of Illinois, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals 7th and 8th Circuits and the U.S. Supreme Court. He earned his B.A. degree from Knox College and his J.D. degree from the University of Illinois College of Law. Mr. Hurley is a member of the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Editorial Advisory Board of the Wisconsin Defender, the Dane County Criminal Lawyers Association, the Dane County Bar Association, the State Bar of Wisconsin, and the Western District Bar Association where he is a former chairman of the Standing Committee on Criminal Justice. Mr. Hurley is chairman of the board of Federal Defender Services of Wisconsin. TERRY E. NILLES is a shareholder in the law firm of von Briesen & Roper, S.C., where he chairs the firm's Ethics Committee. He earned his B.A. degree from Lawrence University and his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan. Since graduating law school, Mr. Nilles has focused his practice on commercial litigation. He is a past chair of the Milwaukee Bar Association's professionalism committee and has been a frequent lecturer on legal ethics. Mr. Nilles is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Bar Association, and the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers. KEITH SELLEN is director of the Office of Lawyer Regulation, the agency that investigates and prosecutes attorney misconduct and medical incapacity. Mr. Sellen graduated from West Point and the University of Wisconsin Law School. He served as an army judge advocate, where he earned an LL.M degree. He joined the Office of Lawyer Regulation in September 2000.
