CATHERINE C. CLARK is a sole practitioner in Seattle, where she practices in civil litigation, real estate and eminent domain, at both the trial and appellate courts. A former law clerk for the Honorable Robert F. Brachtenbach of the Washington Supreme Court, Ms. Clark also served as claims counsel for a national title insurer in the Pacific Northwest. She is the responsible attorney for several appellate decisions on real estate and has been lead counsel in high-profile cases involving eminent domain issues. Ms. Clark earned her B.A. degree from the University of Washington and her J.D. degree from Gonzaga University School of Law, where she was a member of the Law Review and the Moot Court Council. A frequent speaker at seminars, she was honored by the Washington State Bar Association with a Best of CLE award in 2006 for her presentation on "The Law of Adjoining Property Owners" and has received the Rising Star in Washington Law Award and Super Lawyer recognition. JESSICA M. JENSEN is the principal of Jessica Jensen Law PS in Olympia, Washington. Her general practice focuses on real estate, land use, business, and estate planning because she finds these areas of law to be so interconnected in her clients' lives. Ms. Jensen is a former title examiner from New England, where paralegals and attorneys still perform title searches by reviewing every document in the chain for title for a period of 40 years. She is a former real estate manager for the Washington State Department of Transportation, where her staff acquired and managed real estate for highway purposes under the threat of eminent domain. Although Ms. Jensen has tried numerous cases involving title, easements, boundaries, adverse possession and eminent domain, she focuses on finding practical, creative solutions to real estate disputes. She has taught for many years in the University of Washington's Contract Management certificate program. Ms. Jensen is co-chair of Land Use Committee of the Thurston County Bar Association and chair of the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce Board of Trustees. SUNNY JOHNSON is an underwriter for Stewart Title Guaranty Company, where she focuses on the states of Washington and Alaska. Ms. Johnson has many years of experience examining title for both residential and real estate projects, such as state and county highway condemnations/acquisitions, tax projects, new plats, golf courses and commercial developments. In her current position as underwriter, she puts that experience to use daily, working with the agents and affiliates underwritten by Stewart Title Guaranty Company. Prior to joining Stewart Title Guaranty Company, Ms. Johnson worked as a title officer in the Residential Unit of First American Title. GEORGE N. PETERS JR. retired as an assistant vice president and division underwriter for Chicago Title Insurance Company, Fidelity National Title Insurance Company, Ticor Title Insurance Company and Security Union Title Insurance Company. He has more than 44 years' experience in the title insurance and real estate fields, including five years as a paralegal coordinating national title insurance requirements for a Boston law firm. He is currently the Education chair for the Washington Land Title Association. Mr. Peters is the author of the chapters "Title Insurance" and "Waterfront Titles" in the Washington State Bar Association's Real Property Deskbook, and has written numerous papers on various title insurance topics, including condominiums, leaseholds, bankruptcy, Indian lands, probate, mineral lands, timber, water boundaries, easements and foreclosures. He has organized and participated in many seminars for the title insurance, lending, and escrow industries and the legal profession. Mr. Peters currently represents the title insurance industry on a subcommittee of the Real Property, Probate & Trust section of the Washington State Bar Association, which is reviewing the Uniform Common Interest Ownership Act for possible adoption in Washington State. He was the representative of that industry on the statutory Condominium Task Force which drafted the current Washington Condominium Act and authored a paper, "Condominiums and Title Insurance in Washington." Mr. Peters consults on real estate projects where title insurance problems, particularly in the area of condominiums, are present, and is available as an expert witness in litigation involving title insurance.
