DWIGHT BICKEL is corporate counsel at Rainier Title. He provides a broad range of support to a large title agent operating in three counties surrounding the Puget Sound area in Western Washington. Mr. Bickel continues to act as a consultant to real estate professionals and attorneys in assisting with real estate transactions and acts as an expert supporting litigation related to real property title and title insurance coverage. He has written several essays and frequently speaks on title insurance and escrow closing issues for attorney seminars, title, and escrow industry seminars, and internal training seminars throughout the northwest states. Mr. Bickel is active in the local bar associations and the legal community. He is a member of the Washington State Bar Association and Idaho State Bar. Mr. Bickel was asked to serve two years as a member of the Executive Committee of the Real Property, Probate & Trust Section of the Washington State Bar Association. Last year, he was president of the Washington Land Title Association and continues as a member of its Executive Committee. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of TIPAC and the Federal Political Action Committee for the American Land Title Association. Mr. Bickel is a member of the ALTA Forms Committee, which is responsible for developing new title insurance forms for use throughout the United States. He is a graduate of the University of Puget Sound School of Law and the University of Washington College of Business Administration. COLLYER CHURCH is a senior vice president and senior underwriter with Stewart Title Guaranty Company. His main responsibilities include title insurance underwriting, reviewing high liability policies prior to issuance, and guidance and instruction of title personnel. Mr. Church has lectured on behalf of the California Land Title Association, Alaska Land Title Association and the Washington Land Title Association. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Southern California School of Law and Pepperdine University School of Law. Mr. Church also has been a guest lecturer in extension courses at UCLA, and has spoken to various state and local real estate brokerage and escrow groups. He has more than 38 years of experience in title underwriting, and has been a consultant and expert witness in real estate and title insurance litigation in the state and federal courts of California. Mr. Church earned his B.A. degree from Albion College and his J.D. degree from the University of Chicago Law School. CATHERINE C. CLARK is a sole practitioner in Seattle, Washington. She is a licensed instructor for real estate agents in Washington; has spoken at in-house seminars on real estate matters; and has lectured on real estate topics to the Washington State Bar Association, the King County Bar for CLEs, and a major local real estate brokerage firm. In 2006, Ms. Clark was selected to speak at the WSBA Best of CLE for 2006. She was a clerk for Washington State Supreme Court Hon. Judge Robert Brachtenbach and is a former counsel to a title company in the Pacific Northwest. She practices in real estate, land use, eminent domain litigation, and appellate and commercial litigation, and is an expert witness and consultant. Ms. Clark is a member of the King County (member, Real Property, Probate & Trust Section) and Washington State bar associations. She earned her B.A. degree from the University of Washington and her J.D. degree from Gonzaga University. LAWRENCE S. GLOSSER practices law at the Seattle firm of Ahlers & Cressman PLLC. He has been actively involved in the real estate industry as a broker, manager, developer and attorney since 1978. Mr. Glosser is thoroughly familiar with all aspects of real estate transactions and financing. He brings his entrepreneurial experience to the practice of law, enabling him to understand both the legal and business issues presented in each transaction. As an attorney, Mr. Glosser assists clients with understanding and evaluating legal issues associated with business transactions, enabling clients to analyze risk and make informed business decisions. He graduated, cum laude, from Seattle University School of Law, where he was associate editor of the Law Review and served as judicial extern to Hon. William L. Dwyer at the U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington. Mr. Glosser is admitted to practice in Washington and before the U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington. He was formerly an associate at Perkins Coie, and served as assistant general counsel for Shurgard Storage Centers, Inc., at its Seattle headquarters. Prior to joining Ahlers & Cressman PLLC, Mr. Glosser was the owner and managing member of Glosser Law Offices, PLLC, located in Bellevue, Washington. PHILIP T. MATTERN is an attorney has been with the Demco Law Firm, P.S. of Seattle since he started practice in 1987. He earned his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and his law degree from the University of Washington. Mr. Mattern's practice focuses most heavily on real estate transactions and litigation. His clients have included, among others, property owners involved in sales and boundary disputes, brokers and agents, landlords and tenants, foreclosure creditors and debtors, contractors, and homeowner associations. Mr. Mattern has edited, revised, and updated a manual of purchase and sale agreement language for use by real estate brokers. He has given presentations on legal matters to brokers and to the general public, and his writings have appeared in real estate trade publications. GRETCHEN L. VALENTINE joined the Title Resources Guaranty Company in May 2011 as vice president/Pacific NW regional underwriting counsel. She began her title career in 1993 as claims counsel for a large national title insurer. Since 1997, Ms. Valentine has held various underwriting positions, where she has underwritten transactions in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and Oregon. She recently co-authored the "Duties and Responsibilities of the Escrow Agent and the Limited Practice Officer" chapter in the WSBA's Washington Real Property Deskbook Series, Volume 3 (2009). Ms. Valentine regularly provides continuing legal education credits for attorneys, realtors, limited practice officers, and paralegals regarding title and escrow practices, regulatory changes and concerns. She was admitted to the Washington State Bar Association in 1991, and from 1991 to 1993, she clerked for the Honorable H. Joseph Coleman (now retired) at the Washington State Court of Appeals, Division I. Ms. Valentine earned her B.S. degree from Whitman College and her J.D. degree, cum laude, from the Northern Illinois University College of Law.
