CHRISTOPHER H. HOWARD is a shareholder in the Seattle office of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, where he focuses his practice in the defense of professionals in the medical, legal, financial, hospitality and real estate industries. Mr. Howard's representative work includes defense of hospitals, physicians and nursing homes in medical malpractice claims and in licensure matters, defense of attorneys in legal malpractice claims, defense of hotels and restaurants in premises liability, product liability and alcohol service litigation, general defense of self-insured clients and litigation relating to internet commerce and general commercial litigation. He handles insurance coverage matters and risk management for self-insured companies. Mr. Howard has extensive trial experience in state, federal and administrative law courts and handles appeals in both state and federal courts. He is a member of the Washington State Bar Association and has served on its Interprofessional Committee and its Rules of Professional Conduct Committee. Mr. Howard is an active member in the Defense Research Institute, Washington State Defense Trial Lawyers Association and the Washington State Society of Healthcare Attorneys. He is a frequent speaker to professionals and employers on liability, ethics and risk management issues. CLARKE JOHNSON is an attorney in the law firm of Johnson, Graffe, Keay, Moniz & Wick, LLP, where his practice emphasizes personal injury defense, including medical malpractice claims, and product liability and employment discrimination. Mr. Johnson has successfully defended cases brought against physicians, hospitals and other health care providers, product manufacturers and retailers, employers and others. He was recently appointed a special assistant attorney general to represent the University of Washington. Mr. Johnson has served on the Board of Trustees of the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association, the Washington State Bar Association Interprofessional Committee and the Doctor/Lawyer Liaison Committee of the Pierce County Medical Society. MARY JO NEWHOUSE is a shareholder with Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, where her practice focuses on health care and medical malpractice defense, as well as estate planning. An earlier career as a registered nurse in pediatric intensive care provides Ms. Newhouse with a strong foundation for health-related legal matters. She represents health care professionals, long-term care facilities and hospitals. Ms. Newhouse has broad experience in litigation, regulatory matters, business and contract issues. She is a member of the Washington State Bar Association and the Washington State Society of Healthcare Attorneys. Ms. Newhouse also serves on the Board of Trustees for the King County Bar Foundation. She earned her B.S. degree from Wayne State University and her J.D. degree from the University of Puget Sound.
THOMAS B. VERTETIS is a partner at Pfau Cochran Vertetis Kosnoff PLLC, where his areas of practice include general and commercial litigation, personal injury, governmental liability, medical malpractice, product liability and premises liability defense. He is the president of Pierce County Bar Foundation, a board member of the Law Fund Campaign for Equal Justice and a member of the Washington State Association of Justice and the American Bar Association. Mr. Vertetis is a regularly scheduled speaker at CLE seminars on trial practice, medical malpractice and evidence. He earned his B.B.A degree, cum laude, from the University of San Diego and his J.D. degree from the Villanova University School of Law. LISH WHITSON is an attorney in Seattle, Washington. In more than 30 years as a trial lawyer Mr. Whitson has represented individuals, businesses, plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state courts. His civil practice includes medical malpractice, health law, consumer class action, complex commercial litigation, personal injury, employment and construction law. Mr. Whitson also has an active practice as a neutral, serving as both an arbitrator and a mediator. He has been elected to membership in the American College of Trial Lawyers, the Litigation Counsel of America and the American Board of Trial Advocates, and presently serves on the ABOTA National Board. He is a past trustee of the King County Bar Association, a past Governor of the Washington State Bar Association and a past member of the ABA House of Delegates. Mr. Whitson currently serves as a special hearing officer in bar disciplinary matters and co-chairs, with a Supreme Court Justice, the WSBA Local Rules Task Force. He is a recipient of the King County Bar's "Pro Bono Award" and the "Lawyer of the Year Award." For the last seven years he has been selected by his peers as one of the top 100 "Super Lawyers" in the state in Law & Politics magazine. Mr. Whitson has lectured and written extensively on trial practice, ethics and professionalism, and is a regular speaker for National Business Institute on evidence, expert witnesses, ethics and medical negligence. He also has lectured in trial advocacy at the University of Washington School of Law and has taught on the national and regional faculty of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy.
