DR. RICHARD S. ADLER, M.D., is a Board-Certified Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist, practicing in Seattle. Dr. Adler was a staff psychiatrist at the Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle for approximately ten years. In 2000, he completed a Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Washington School of Medicine and is on the clinical faculty, providing lectures on Child Custody. Dr. Adler is a graduate of the Parenting Evaluation and Training Program (PETP). He has provided consultation to attorneys "behind the scenes" in numerous custody matters, as well as functioning as a testifying expert. He has provided two day-long CLE's for the WSBA on Custody Evaluations. He submitted an amicus brief following the death of singer Michael Jackson. His other areas of interest include psychiatric aspects of personal injury claims, and the relevance of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders to matters before the Court. RUTH LAURA EDLUND is a partner in the law firm of Wechsler Becker, LLP, where her practice areas include family and divorce law. Her practice emphasizes complex dissolutions and nonmarital breakups. Ms. Edlund clerked for the Honorable James M. Sprouse, United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. She received her A.B. degree, magna cum laude, with honors, from Bryn Mawr College and her J.D. degree from Columbia University, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. Ms. Edlund is a member of the King County Bar Association (past chairperson, Family Law Section) and Washington State Bar Association (chairman, Family Law Executive Committee). She is admitted to practice law in New York State as well as Washington State and is a frequent speaker at CLEs. DR. MELANIE ENGLISH, Ph.D., MSW, is a parenting evaluator and Guardian Ad Litem in private practice, where she focuses on high conflict parenting plan evaluations in divorce, paternity, modification and third-party custody cases. Dr. English earned her Ph.D. degree in clinical psychology from Seattle Pacific University, where her dissertation research centered on attachment issues and parental support in parenting plans. She also has a Master's degree in social work and studied developmental psychology as an undergraduate. She worked for King County Superior Court Family Court Services for more than 10 years and has cumulatively completed several hundred parenting evaluations in King and Snohomish counties, as well as, working on many international child custody evaluations. She has served as an expert witness and post-decree case manager; has completed adoption home study reports, domestic violence assessments and risk assessments; and worked as a family and child therapist and mediator. Dr. English has taught seminars and workshops for the King County Superior Court Mandatory Parenting Seminar, "What About the Children?" and other continuing legal education for the King County Department of Judicial Administration, and is a proud member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) and the American Psychological Association (APA). ALAN S. FUNK is an attorney with Wechsler Becker, LLP in Seattle, where he limits his practice to family law. He is a registered Title 26 (family law) Guardian Ad Litem, and volunteers as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. Mr. Funk's presentations include "Working with Pro Se Litigants as Opposing Parties" at WSTLA Family Law Section CLE (2006) and "Evaluating the Evaluator - Preparation for and Deposition of the Parenting Evaluator" at KCBA Family Law Section Hot Topics CLE (10/5/07), Advanced Family Law Practice for Paralegals; "Drafting Child Support Orders and Worksheets" (8/14/08); Financial Settlement Strategies for Your Divorce Clients"; and "Getting A Divorce Case Off to the Right Foot" (12/11/08). He earned his B.A. degree from the University of Washington and his J.D. from Willamette's College of Law. Mr. Funk is a member of the Washington State Bar Association and the State Bar of California. He serves as the current chair of the King County Bar Association's Family Law Section, has served on the Family Law and Personal Injury Pattern Interrogatories Subcommittees and the Ad Hoc Family Law Local Rules Committee (2006 to 2007); and is a member of Superior Court Children and Family Facilities Master Plan Working Group (2007 to 2008) among other committees. MICHAEL W. LOUDEN has been practicing law in Seattle since 1995. He focuses primarily on family law matters, but also has handled property and landlord- tenant disputes, personal injury cases, bankruptcy issues, and criminal defense cases. Mr. Louden is a certified mediator and serves as a mediator and arbitrator in family law cases. He also serves as a King County Family Law Commissioner Pro Tem. Mr. Louden has been appointed as a Guardian ad Litem and court appointed special advocate to represent children's interests in domestic relations matters. He is a past chair of the King County Bar Association Family Law Section and has a long-term involvement in the King County Bar Association's family law legislative agenda. Mr. Louden has handled a number of family law appeals. He is the editor of the Washington Lawyer's Practice Manual Family Law Section. Mr. Louden was educated at Earlham College and the University of Washington School of Law.
