JASON P. AMALA is a partner with Pfau Cochran Vertetis Amala, PLLC, where he has devoted his law practice to representing individuals and businesses who have been victimized by others. His clients and cases span a diverse range, from pro bono representation of elderly tenants, to representing employees and consumers injured by defective products, to numerous multi-million dollar settlements for victims of childhood sexual abuse. He primarily practices in state and federal trial court, but has also obtained favorable decisions from the Washington Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Washington. Mr. Amala earned his undergraduate degree, with distinction, from the University of Washington Honors College and his Juris Doctorate degree from Seattle University School of Law, where he graduated second in his class, earned top honors in ten of his law school courses, received the Faculty Scholar Award at graduation, and was twice elected president of the student body. He has been a board member of the Just Cauz Foundation since 2005, a non-profit that raises money for charities who focus on children. DARRELL L. COCHRAN is a partner in the Tacoma office of Pfau Cochran Vertetis Amala, PLLC. Mr. Cochran is a trial attorney who represents injured victims in complex personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, civil rights and commercial injury cases. He has appeared before every level of court on behalf of his clients to protect their interests, from municipal courts all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Cochran is a regular speaker at seminars given by the Washington Trial Lawyers Association and a judge for moot court competitions at the Seattle University Law School. He has been recognized as a "Super Lawyer" every year for the past decade in Law & Politics magazine's list of the top lawyers in Washington and in 2010 received the 35th highest verdict nationally for over $57 million in the Rekhter v. State of Washington case where he represented a class of in-home care providers. Mr. Cochran is a member of the Washington State, Pierce County and American bar associations, and on the board of the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association (Eagle member). He is also a member of the American Association for Justice. He earned his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Washington and his J.D. degree from the University of Michigan. THOMAS M. FITZPATRICK is a partner in the law firm Talmadge/Fitzpatrick. He is a former partner in the firm of Karr, Tuttle, Campbell (1978-1989) and Stafford Frey Cooper (1989-1999); managing partner (1991-1994). From 1999 through 2004, he served as Assistant Chief of the Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, Civil Division, heading the Litigation and Employment unit. He was named a "Super Lawyer" by the publication Washington Law and Politics in 2004. In 2005, the elected Snohomish County Executive, selected him as executive director of Snohomish County with oversight responsibility for planning and development, economic development, environmental policy, the airport, risk management, and several other county offices. In 2006, he returned to private practice, joining former Washington Supreme Court Justice Phil Talmadge with whom he previously practiced, at the Talmadge/Fitzpatrick firm. His practice has an emphasis in professional responsibility, attorney fees, and litigation. Mr. Fitzpatrick has extensive bar association experience including service on the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association (1998-2001) and the ABA House of Delegates (1989-present). He currently serves as the KCBA ABA delegate. Mr. Fitzpatrick served two terms on the ABA Standing Committee on Professional Discipline, and one term as a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Ethics (2001-2004). He served on the committee which wrote the "Model Rules of Judicial Discipline", and the Joint Commission which rewrote the "Model Code of Judicial Conduct" adopted by the ABA in 2007. He served on the ABA Lawyer Professional Liability Committee and as a Supreme Court representative on the Washington State Task Force Evaluating the Washington CJC which recommended a new Washington CJC. The Washington Supreme Court adopted a new CJC effective in January 2011. Mr. Fitzpatrick earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Montana and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Chicago Law School. PHILIP A. TALMADGE is a partner in the law firm Talmadge/Fitzpatrick. He served in the Washington State Senate from 1979 to 1995. He chaired the Judiciary and Health Care Committees in the Senate, where he was a leader in court reform, alternative dispute resolution, crime victims' rights, domestic violence prevention, public health, mental health, and health care reform. He served on the Washington Supreme Court from 1995 to 2001. He promoted the judicial information system, privacy of court records, and court reform. He has taught appellate advocacy at the Seattle University and University of Washington Law Schools. He is the author of a number of articles on legal issues, including a treatise on attorney fees. Mr. Talmadge has built and operated a small business, Talmadge/Fitzpatrick. He is a fellow of the prestigious American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, and a member of the Washington Appellate Lawyers Association. He is a graduate of West Seattle High School as a National Merit scholar. He earned his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Yale University and his J.D. degree from the University of Washington where he was on the Law Review. THOMAS B. VERTETIS is a partner at Pfau Cochran Vertetis Amala, PLLC, where his areas of practice include general and commercial litigation, personal injury, governmental liability, medical malpractice, product liability and premises liability defense. He is the president of Pierce County Bar Foundation, a board member of the Law Fund Campaign for Equal Justice and a member of the Washington State Association of Justice and the American Bar Association. Mr. Vertetis is a regularly scheduled speaker at CLE seminars on trial practice, medical malpractice and evidence. He earned his B.B.A degree, cum laude, from the University of San Diego and his J.D. degree from the Villanova University School of Law.
