JOHN W. JONES graduated in June of 1969 from Western Washington State College with a B.A. degree, cum laude, majoring in History, and graduated in December 1971 from Western Washington State College with an M.A. degree in History. Mr. Jones has 35 years of experience in the title insurance industry. He began his career with Transamerica Title Insurance Company in 1975. Mr. Jones held various management and sales positions within the company until he transferred into title operations in 1984 as a senior title officer, being named as head of the Commercial Unit in 1988. From 1988 to 2004, Mr. Jones ran the commercial unit for Land America Financial, underwriting for Transnation Title Insurance Company, Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company and Lawyers Title Insurance Company. He was the primary underwriter for many of the significant projects in the Seattle-Bellevue area including the Washington State Convention and Trade Center, the Pike Place Market, the Benaroya Hall, One and Two Union Square, Pacific Place, Harbor Steps and the Washington Mutual/Seattle Art Museum condominium tower. Since joining Stewart Title Guaranty, Mr. Jones has underwritten the sale of 1001 Fourth Avenue in Seattle, the refinance of Pacific Place, refinance of the Space Needle, the sale of the Safeco Campus, the sale of the Millennium Business Park, The Bravern, the sale of 320,000 acres of timberlands in Montana and the purchase of 325,000 acres of timberlands in Southwest Washington. Mr. Jones holds the position of vice president, associate senior underwriter, manager, Seattle National Title Services, for Stewart Title Guaranty Company in its Seattle office. MARK D. KIMBALL has practiced in Bellevue for 27 years as principal of a six-member firm, MDK Law Associates, emphasizing corporate, commercial and property law, and consulting in matters involving federal and international taxation. He is an adjunct professor of law at Etvos Lorand University and has instructed a property law course for escrow (L.P.O.) candidates taking the Washington licensing examination and has served as a law school guest lecturer at Seattle University School of Law. He also presents and has presented at conferences and continuing education events of the Escrow Association of Washington and the Washington State Bar Association, and at legal and political science academic conferences in the United States, Latin America and Europe. Mr. Kimball also served as a Washington state law examiner, hosted a weekly radio talk show on KKNW, Seattle's AM CNN affiliate, and taught a course on business law. His research and writings include topics in international and domestic tax policy, and international commercial law. Recent publications include "Context & Structure: Historical Institutionalism and Analysis of Cuba's Economic & Legal Reforms," and "Synthesizing Legal-Philosophical Referents and Rational Choice Analysis in Tax Policy Adoption and Change: A Proposal on the Relevance of Historical Institutionalism in Comparative Analysis." Mr. Kimball is admitted to practice in Washington and New York, and has been board-certified as a professional guardian (B.C.P.G.). He earned his J.D. and LL.M. degrees from the University of Washington and is currently working toward a Ph.D. in tax policy. Mr. Kimball was recently recognized as a Washington Top Attorney in corporate and tax law by Washington CEO magazine and in Seattle Met magazine. RICHARD W. PIERSON is an attorney in the Bothell law firm of Williams & Williams PSC where he practices in the areas of eminent domain, trial practice, mediation, state and federal arbitration and real property. He has focused his practice on the representation of property owners in real estate condemnation disputes. Mr. Pierson works to obtain just compensation for condemned parcels of all types and descriptions, including commercial, residential, waterfront, industrial and unimproved land. He is heavily involved in condemnation work in Western Washington, and has also handled matters in Eastern Washington, Alaska, Oregon, and Idaho. Mr. Pierson frequently serves as an arbitrator and mediator in several local jurisdictions. He has appeared as a panel member and seminar participant in many continuing legal education seminars, as well as seminars for appraisers. For approximately 15 years, he also served as Special District Counsel to the Washington State Bar Association on disciplinary matters. He earned his B.A. degree from Washington State University and his J.D. degree from the University of Washington. Mr. Pierson is a member of the King County, Washington State and American bar associations. MARILYN M. SANDEN is a graduate of Central Washington State College. She was previously employed by First American Title Company and Chicago Title Insurance Company in Seattle, Washington. Currently, Ms. Sanden is the executive vice president and senior title officer of Pacific Northwest Title Company of Washington (formerly Stewart Title Company of Washington). Since 1983, she has been involved with the management and underwriting of Pacific Northwest Title Company which included commercial and residential transactions.
