MARK G. BEARD is a shareholder in the Seattle office of Lane Powell PC, where he focuses his practice on maritime and personal injury defense, products liability, admiralty and insurance litigation. Mr. Beard has been practicing for 25 years and has lectured before various professional groups, including the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers Association, on matters related to ethics, personal injury and insurance. He is a member of the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute, the American Bar Association and The Maritime Law Association of the United States. Mr. Beard earned his B.S. and B.A. degrees from the University of Washington, and his J.D. degree from the University of Puget Sound. ELIOT M. HARRIS is an attorney in the Seattle office of Williams Kastner. Mr. Harris is a litigator, with a focus on mass torts, product liability, insurance coverage, and catastrophic personal injury. His past successes include favorable results in numerous high-profile cases, many times by outright dismissal. In addition to his trial practice, Mr. Harris assists as coordinating council for various national clients involved in toxic tort litigation throughout the United States. He is a regular volunteer at the Greenwood Legal Clinic in Seattle and has been named as a "Rising Star" for 2010 by Washington Law & Politics magazine. He is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, the King County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Defense Research Institute. CHRISTOPHER S. MARKS is a member in the Seattle office of Williams Kastner. As a trial attorney, Mr. Marks primarily handles commercial disputes and defends high-stakes product defect claims. His product liability practice encompasses aviation, consumer products and toxic torts. Mr. Marks serves as national trial counsel for several clients in toxic tort litigation. Mr. Marks also serves in an advising capacity for corporate clients seeking to develop nationwide strategies for the defense of mass-tort litigation. As lead trial counsel, he has obtained defense verdicts in state courts and successfully argued for his clients before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and several of Washington's appellate courts. Mr. Marks is admitted to practice in California, Oregon and Washington. He was named a "Rising Star" by Washington Law & Politics magazine each year from 2001-2008. Mr. Marks was named a "Super Lawyer" by Washington Law & Politics magazine for 2010. THOMAS M. O'TOOLE is a consultant with Tsongas Litigation Consulting Inc. Mr. O'Toole has seven years of experience observing and analyzing juror behavior through mock trials, focus groups, shadow jurors and post verdict interviews. He specialized in providing services in the area of case strategy development, jury selection, witness preparation and jury research. Prior to joining Tsongas Litigation Consulting Inc., Mr. O'Toole taught argument, persuasion, interpersonal communication, and public speaking at the university level for five years. During this time, he also served as an assistant coach to the university debate team. Mr. O'Toole is a member of the American Society of Trial Consultants. He earned his doctorate degree in legal communication and psychology at the University of Kansas, where he studied jury behavior both through his own research and as an intern with the Advocacy Research Institute. RANDAL S. THIEL is a founding member of the Seattle law firm of Thiel, McCafferty & Steinmark, where his practice is focused in the areas of construction law and commercial and general civil litigation. In his practice, he has represented general contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers and project owners on public and private construction projects. His litigation experience includes bench, jury and administrative trials, bid protests, arbitrations and mediations. Mr. Thiel is a frequent lecturer on matters related to construction and civil litigation, including alternative dispute resolution procedures of mediation and arbitration. He earned his B.S. degree from the University of Idaho and his J.D. degree from Gonzaga University. Mr. Thiel is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, and is admitted to practice in Washington State and before the U.S. District Court for the Districts of Washington, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
