IAN P. CARLETON is principal in the law firm of Sheehey Furlong & Behm P.C. He regularly represents corporate and individual clients in complex civil and criminal matters in state and federal court, with a particular focus on disputes over intellectual property rights including patent and copyright infringement, breach of contract, and consumer fraud. Mr. Carleton is a graduate of Columbia College and Yale Law School. He is admitted to practice in the state of Vermont, the Federal District Court of Vermont, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and is admitted to the bar in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York. Mr. Carleton is currently a member of the American and Vermont bar associations, and the Vermont Trial Lawyers Association. Prior to joining the firm, he served as law clerk to the Honorable William K. Sessions, III, Chief Judge of the Federal District Court of Vermont. From 2002 - 2007, Mr. Carleton was an elected member of the Burlington City Council, serving as council president from 2005 - 2007. From 2005 - 2009, he served as state chairman of the Vermont Democratic Party. LOUISE C. REESE is a paralegal in the law firm of Dinse, Knapp & McAndrew, P.C., where she specializes in the areas of litigation and personal injury. She conducts factual research and investigations, and prepares witness lists and exhibits, trial notebooks and deposition summaries. Ms. Reese also coordinates and manages document production, locates and interviews witnesses and experts, organizes pleadings and trial exhibits, gathers and reviews medical records, and maintains general client contact. She received her B.A. degree from the University of Vermont and her A.S. degree from the Champlain College of Paralegal Studies. Ms. Reese is a member of the Vermont Paralegal Association (Newsletter Editor). JAMES W. SPINK is a principal of the firm of Sheehey Furlong & Behm P.C., since 2011. He is a seasoned trial lawyer with over 30 years of experience and has tried in excess of 125 cases to verdict. Mr. Spink's areas of specialization include chemical exposure and complex tort claims, transportation cases, and catastrophic personal injury claims. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and of the American College of Civil Trial Mediators. Mr. Spink has been honored by SuperLawyers, Best Lawyers of America (2011 "Lawyer of the Year" - ADR - Burlington, Vermont), and Chambers USA. He is a member of the National Association of Distringuished Neutrals and frequently offers presentations to the bar on ADR topics. Although Mr. Spink's maintains an active litigation practice, his professional activity currently is primarily devoted to mediations and arbitrations. Mr. Spink's has performed many hundreds of mediations, early neutral evaluations and evidentiary hearings at arbitration (both as a sole arbitrator and, typically, as the third or "neutral" arbitrator in a three member panel) over the years. He is the most active evaluator in the ENE program of the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Spink was first an associate and later partner in a distinguished law firm in Burlington from 1980 - 2000. He was then a cofounder and principal of a small litigation firm in Burlington, Vermont from 2000 - 2010. Mr. Spink's earned his B.A. degree, with high honors, from Middlebury College and his J.D. degree from Albany Law School. CARIE A. TARTE is a paralegal at Sheehey Furlong & Behm, P.C., in Burlington, Vermont, where she works in the areas of criminal and civil litigation. In addition to 14 years of legal experience in litigation, she has worked in immigration, third-party insurance administration/insurance claims, and trust and estate planning and administration. Ms. Tarte received her B.S. degree in Paralegal Studies/Pre-Law from Rivier College's ABA Accredited Paralegal Program. She currently serves as president, Scholarship Committee chair, and CLE Committee chair of the Vermont Paralegal Organization.
