RAIGHNE C. DELANEY is a shareholder with the firm Bean, Kinney & Korman, P.C. He practices in the area of general civil litigation, including real estate and business litigation. Mr. Delaney is a LEED Accredited Professional with knowledge of the law as it relates to the construction, design and operation of green buildings. He is licensed to practice law in Virginia, the District of Columbia and Maryland. Mr. Delaney is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as various U.S. federal courts. In 2009, he was named a Leader in the Law by Virginia Lawyers Weekly for advancing the law, improving the justice system and setting the standard for other lawyers. Also in 2009, Virginia Business magazine named Mr. Delaney one of Virginia's Legal Elite, in the category of Civil Litigation. He is a fellow in the honors society, Litigation Counsel of America, and was recognized in the March 2010 issue of Litigation Commentary and Review for representing a manufacturer regarding the sale of roadside bomb jammers for use by NATO in Afghanistan. Mr. Delaney was co-author "Top 10 Claims for 2009," VLTA Examiner, "Damages under the Virginia Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act," Journal of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and "The Effect of Electronic Filing of Cover Sheets in Virginia," The Fee Simple. He has given presentations on "Settlement Agent Liability" before the Title Insurance Committee of the American Bar Association, "Errors and Omissions Insurance Policies in the Context of Settlement Agent Liability," before the Title Insurance Committee of the American Bar Association in 2009 and on "Representing Claimants in Pro Bono Employment Cases," before the District of Columbia Bar in 1997. Before attending law school, Mr. Delaney served as an officer in the U.S. Army, and among his awards are the Army Commendation Medal with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (for the invasion of Panama), and the Parachutist Badge. He earned his J.D. degree, with honors, from the George Washington University Law School, where he served as an Articles Editor on the student law journal, The Environmental Lawyer, and his B.A. degree, with honors, from Temple University. GEORGE A. HAWKINS is a partner in the Vienna law firm of Peterson Noll & Goodman PLC, where he focuses his practice on real estate, litigation (civil, business and fiduciary), business transactions, corporate law and government contracts. He is admitted to practice in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia and before the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Virginia and the U.S. Court of Appeals 4th Circuit. Mr. Hawkins earned his J.D. degree from George Washington University and his B.A. degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. KEVIN T. POGODA has been with Old Republic National Title Insurance Company since May 2006, as state manager, he oversees the company's operations for Virginia. After law school, he worked in several firms located in New Jersey, Virginia and the District of Columbia. While in private practice, Mr. Pogoda's experience included SEC compliance, Indian gaming law, commercial litigation, labor and employment law, and not-for-profit litigation. He has taken and passed the bar exams for California, New Jersey, Virginia and Maryland. In 1998, Mr. Pogoda began his career as a settlement attorney at a prominent settlement company located in Annandale, Virginia. While in that position, he performed approximately 3,000 settlements and focused on 1031 Exchanges and resolving title issues. Mr. Pogoda currently chairs the Legislation Committee for the Virginia Land Title Association and regularly speaks before various groups in the real estate industry, including attorneys, title agents and realtors. He earned his B.A. degree, with honors, from the University of California Berkeley and his J.D. degree at the University of Santa Clara School of Law. SAM WHITSON is the owner of Sam Whitson Land Surveying, which was established in April of 1995 to service settlement companies with their surveying needs. Mr. Whitson has more than 40 years experience in all fields of land surveying and 20 years as a professional. The company now serves more than 70 settlement companies in the Northern Virginia area. He also gives lectures to real estate agents covering various aspects of land surveying and problem solving when title problems occur at the request of his settlement attorney's. Mr. Whitson has also served as an expert witness in litigation cases in the northern Virginia areas.
