EVAN H. FARR, CELA, CEA, and principal of The Law Firm of Evan H. Farr, P.C., based in Fairfax, focuses his practices on long-term care planning, Medicaid planning, disability planning and estate planning. He is both a Certified Elder Law Attorney and a Certified Estate Advisor. A frequent speaker and published author, Mr. Farr has written a book titled The Virginia Nursing Home Survival Guide, and also has written numerous articles that have appeared in the Guide to Retirement Living and the Golden Gazette. At the state level, he serves on the boards of both the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys Virginia Chapter and the Virginia Bar Association Elder Law Section. At the national level, Mr. Farr is a charter member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners, and maintains memberships in the AARP legal services network, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the National Care Planning Council and the Gerontological Society of America. At the local level, he is the co-chair of the Fairfax Bar Association's Wills, Trusts & Estate Section and, an active member of the Elder Law section and has served numerous other leadership positions within the association, including chair of the Election Committee, chair of the Long Range Planning Committee and chair of the Law Practice Management Section. Mr. Farr earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his J.D. degree from the College of William & Mary. He is licensed to practice in Virginia and the District of Columbia. JOHN L. LASTER is a sole practitioner in Falls Church, where he practices in the areas of trusts and estates, elder law and estate planning with a focus on special needs trusts. He is a frequent speaker for various professional and lay groups, and he has made several television appearances, where he speaks about special needs trusts. Mr. Laster earned his A.B. degree from Oberlin College and his J.D. degree from Catholic University. He is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the Virginia State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar and the American Bar Association (co-chair, Special Needs Trusts and Long Term Care Committee of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Section). Mr. Laster also is a member of the District of Columbia Estate Planning Council and a founding member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. RICHARD MAYBERRY is the principal of the Mayberry Law Firm in McLean, Virginia. His areas of expertise include estate planning, estate administration and elder law. In his law practice, Mr. Mayberry assists families with wills, living trusts, powers of attorney, probate, special needs trusts, nursing home related matters, such as financing long-term care, qualification/contesting government benefits, end of life issues, attendant income and gift and estate tax issues. He also has advised foundations and other tax-exempt organizations. Mr. Mayberry is a regular speaker throughout Northern Virginia and has taught continuing professional education seminars to professionals such as the Virginia Society of CPAs, the Northern Virginia Insurance and Financial Advisors Association and bar associations on technical aspects of the law. Mr. Mayberry graduated from the George Washington University Law School. He is past chair of the Estate Planning and Elder Law Committee of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia. TIMOTHY M. MAYBERRY is a financial advisor with MetLife in Bethesda, Maryland. Mr. Mayberry specializes in life, disability, long-term care insurances and annuities. He earned a B.A. degree in economics and a B.A. degree in finance from Salisbury University - Purdue School of Business.
