KATHRYN L. HARMAN was in the top five percent of her class at the Samford University Cumberland School of Law, where she was a member of Law Review and taught legal research and writing as a Cordell Hull teaching fellow. Ms. Harman was published in the Cumberland Law Review and received a Scholar of Merit Award as the top student in the healthcare organization and finance course. She is a member of the Alabama State Bar, Appellate Practice, Washington D.C. Bar, District of Columbia Bar and the Virginia State Bar. Ms. Harman is admitted to practice in federal court in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, as well as the Northern and Middle districts of Alabama. While practicing in Alabama, she defended municipalities and businesses in civil litigation, and specialized in motion and appellate practice. Ms. Harman authored dozens of briefs to Alabama appellate courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. She is an attorney with Semmes, Bowen & Semmes and has experience in employment law, workers' compensation law, products liability, personal injury law, legal malpractice defense, and general liability defense. Ms. Harman earned her B.A. degree, cum laude, from Marshall University and her J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from Samford University Cumberland School of Law. RICHARD MAYBERRY is the principal of the Mayberry Law Firm in McLean, Virginia. His areas of expertise include estate planning, estate administration and elder law. In his law practice, Mr. Mayberry assists families with wills, living trusts, powers of attorney, probate, special needs trusts, nursing home related matters, such as financing long-term care, qualification/contesting government benefits, and end of life issues, and attendant income, and gift and estate tax issues. He also has advised foundations and other tax-exempt organizations. Mr. Mayberry is a regular speaker throughout Northern Virginia and has taught continuing professional education seminars to professionals such as the Virginia Society of CPAs, National Association of Realtors (senior real estate specialist certification), and the Northern Virginia Insurance and Financial Advisors Association and bar associations on technical aspects of the law. The workshops have qualified students for continuing education credits for lawyers, accountants, real estate agents, and financial professionals. Mr. Mayberry graduated from the George Washington University Law School. He is past chair of the Estate Planning and Probate Committee and former board member and officer of the District of Columbia Bar. ADAM W. SMITH is a principal with McCandlish and Lillard, where his litigation practice is concentrated in the representation of self-insureds, health care providers, insurance companies and other clients in the defense of products liability, medical malpractice, legal malpractice, and general tort liability claims. Mr. Smith is admitted to the Bars of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Ohio, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and District of Columbia Circuit, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and the U.S. District courts of the District of Columbia, Maryland, and the Eastern District of Virginia. He graduated from The Ohio State University, with honors, and earned his J.D. degree, with high distinction, from Ohio Northern University.
