October 11 - Norfolk A. WILLIAM CHARTERS is a member of the Norfolk law firm of Goodman, Allen & Filetti, PLLC, where he practices primarily in professional malpractice. He has been practicing law since 1980. He has spoken for professional groups on civil trial prep and medical malpractice issues, and for local hospitals and various medical societies, as well as for the Virginia State Bar. Mr. Charters earned his A.B. degree, cum laude, with high distinction, from Dartmouth College, his J.D. degree from Syracuse University, his LL.M. degree from The Judge Advocate General's School in Charlottesville and his M.L.T. degree from Georgetown University. Mr. Charters is a member of the American Bar Association; the Norfolk-Portsmouth, Virginia and North Carolina bar associations; the Virginia State Bar; the North Carolina State Bar; and the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys. JUDITH M. COFIELD is a sole practitioner in Virginia Beach where her practice is limited to medical malpractice. Ms. Cofield has been practicing law for more than 30 years. She has been counsel in several Virginia Supreme Court decisions, some of which were seminal in the malpractice specialty. Ms. Cofield is a frequent speaker and author on topics relating to her area of practice. She also was an instructor on pre-trial discovery at Marshall-Wythe School of Law. Ms. Cofield is the commissioner in chancery for the Circuit Court of Virginia Beach, and she is a member of the Norfolk-Portsmouth (past member, Executive Committee), Virginia Beach (past president, Executive Committee) and Virginia Women's (former member, Board of Directors) bar associations; the Virginia State Bar; the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Ms. Cofield is admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court. She received her B.A. degree, magna cum laude, with the Phi Beta Kappa key awarded, from the College of William & Mary and her J.D. degree from Marshall-Wythe School of Law. October 12 - Richmond ROBERT F. DONNELLY is a founding member of the law firm of Goodman, Allen & Filetti, PLLC. Mr. Donnelly has dedicated his practice primarily in the area of civil litigation, with special emphasis on medical and professional liability defense and regulatory matters. He has represented hundreds of health care professionals, including physicians, hospitals and nursing homes, throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mr. Donnelly's litigation skills have earned him recognition in Virginia Lawyers Weekly as attaining two of the top ten defense verdicts in Virginia. Additionally, Mr. Donnelly's practice includes warranty enforcement matters where he serves as local counsel for a national automobile manufacturer. He frequently lectures on health care and regulatory issues impacting health care professionals throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mr. Donnelly is a former member of the Board of Governors of the Health Law Section of the Virginia State Bar. He is a current member of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys, the Defense Research Institute, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Richmond Bar Association, the John Marshall Inns of Court and the Virginia Health Care Association (Education Committee). He earned his B.A. degree, cum laude, from the University of Virginia and his J.D. degree from The Catholic University of America. COLLEEN M. QUINN is a director and equity owner in the law firm of Locke, Partin, DeBoer & Quinn. She has been honored and received awards numerous times, including most recently the 2011 YWCA Outstanding Woman Award for Law & Government and the 2011 Hats Off to Women Award by the ABWA Cavalier Chapter. Litigating cases since 1989, Ms. Quinn represents clients in all aspects of personal injury including motor vehicle accidents, premises and product liability cases, assaults and batteries, sexual assaults, wrongful deaths, industrial accidents, and complex actions. She is especially familiar with serious injuries including sexual assaults, head injury or traumatic brain injury (TBI) cases as well as spinal cord injury cases. Ms. Quinn received her J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1988, and her B.A. degree from William & Mary. She is a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (serving as Pro Bono co-chair for 2010-2011), and is on the CLE, Insurance and Amicus committees. She regularly speaks to and trains both lawyer and non-lawyer groups. In addition to the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, she has served off and on as a faculty member and program moderator on CLE Committees for the Richmond Bar Association and the Virginia State Bar since 1997. Ms. Quinn is a fellow of the LCA, and a member of The American Academy of Adoption Attorneys (AAAA), the American Academy of Assisted Reproductive Technology Attorneys (AAARTA), the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the Richmond Bar Association, the Virginia State Bar and the American Association for Justice.
