JOHN C. ALTMILLER is a partner in the law firm of Pesner Kawamoto Conway PLC. For more than nine years, he has practiced in the areas of real estate, litigation and contract law. Mr. Altmiller earned his B.A. degree from Villanova University and his J.D. degree from George Mason University School of Law. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar (member, Real Estate Section) and the Fairfax County Bar Association (former co-chair, Real Estate Section). JOSEPH J. DiPIETRO is an attorney with DiPietro PLLC in Alexandria, where he has a bankruptcy and litigation practice. He is a graduate of the J.D./M.B.A. program at American University, and also holds a B.B.A. degree from Loyola University Maryland. During law school, Mr. DiPietro worked at the U.S. Department of Justice and served as the managing editor of the Business Law Brief. While earning his M.B.A. degree in finance, he worked at a major investment bank and engaged in consulting work for a Fortune 500 hotel company. Before entering private practice, he clerked for the Hon. Michael J. Stamm in the Circuit Court for St. Mary's County, Maryland, and worked at a law firm in Washington, D.C. Mr. DiPietro is admitted to practice in Virginia, the District of Columbia, New York and New Jersey. He also is admitted to practice before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the District of Columbia, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the District of Columbia. Mr. DiPietro is involved in several pro bono activities, including the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, the District of Columbia Bar Pro Bono Bankruptcy Clinic and the Legal Services of Northern Virginia Bankruptcy Clinic. He is a member of the Walter Chandler American Inn of Court and the Northern Virginia Bankruptcy Bar Association. KEVIN T. POGODA has been with Old Republic National Title Insurance Company since May 2006 as state manager and oversees the company's operations for Virginia. After law school, he worked in several firms located in New Jersey, Virginia and the District of Columbia. While in private practice, Mr. Pogoda's experience included SEC compliance, Indian gaming law, commercial litigation, labor and employment law, and not-for-profit litigation. He has taken and passed the bar exams for California, New Jersey, Virginia and Maryland. In 1998, Mr. Pogoda began his career as a settlement attorney at a prominent settlement company located in Annandale, Virginia. While in that position, he performed approximately 3,000 settlements and focused on 1031 Exchanges and resolving title issues. Mr. Pogoda currently chairs the Legislation Committee for the Virginia Land Title Association and regularly speaks before various groups in the real estate industry, including attorneys, title agents and realtors. He earned his B.A. degree, with honors, from the University of California Berkeley and his J.D. degree at the University of Santa Clara School of Law. PAULA M. POTOCZAK is a sole practitioner in Alexandria, Virginia, where she practices in the areas of environmental litigation and compliance counseling, insurance coverage, and civil and commercial litigation. Her environmental practice covers a wide range of matters, including the sale and lease of contaminated properties; management and completion of environmental due diligence assessments and audits; underground storage tank problems; formulation of compliance programs and training programs for employees involved in the environmental aspects of businesses; Clean Air Act matters relating to the use, recycling and importation of refrigerants, as well as the removal and disposal of asbestos containing materials; resolution of indoor air quality issues; and compliance with Clean Water Act regulations governing wetlands and pollution discharges and related land use and zoning problems. Ms. Potoczak has litigated Superfund and Superfund related third party matters; nuisance, trespass and tort actions involving contaminated property and contaminated groundwater; wetlands and flood plains disputes; violations of the ozone depletion regulations and the asbestos removal regulations of the Clean Air Act. Prior to entering the private practice of law, she was an attorney with the United States Department of Justice, Environment and Natural Resources Division, Environmental Enforcement Section and the United States Department of Justice, Civil Division, Torts Branch. She was also an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Ms. Potoczak is a member the Virginia State Bar (Environment and Natural Resources Section) and the District of Columbia Bar (Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Section, and a former chair of the Solo and Small Firm Practice Committee of the Law Practice Steering Committee). She is the author of various articles on environmental law topics and is a former member of the City of Alexandria's Environmental Policy Commission. Ms. Potoczak earned her B.A. and J.D. degrees from Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. JEREMY B. ROOT is an attorney in the northern Virginia law firm of Blankingship & Keith, PC, where he practices foreclosures and creditor rights on behalf of private and institutional lenders. He has conducted more than a hundred foreclosures in the last four years and including several commercial foreclosures in excess of $10,000,000. Mr. Root frequently appears in bankruptcy court representing creditors involving relief from the automatic stay, objections to discharge, claim disputes, and automatic stay violations. His practice also includes various aspects of commercial real estate, including acquisition and financing, development, and leasing. Mr. Root is admitted to practice before Virginia state courts, as well as the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He earned his B.A. degree from Wheaton College and his J.D. degree from George Mason University School of Law.
