SHARON F. GUSTAFSON is a sole practitioner in Arlington, Virginia, where her practice focuses on employment and adoption law. After law school, Ms. Gustafson worked for four years in the labor and employment law group at Jones, Day in Washington, D.C., where she also handled adoption matters pro bono. She is a member of the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association and the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys. Ms. Gustafson earned her J.D. degree, cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center. BARBARA C. JONES is a sole practitioner in Clifton, Virginia, where she practices in adoption. She is certified as a Guardian Ad Litem by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Ms. Jones earned her B.A. degree from Albion College and her J.D. degree from the George Mason University School of Law. She has previous lecture experience with the National Council for Adoption and has lectured at a "Virginia Adoption" continuing legal education seminar. Ms. Jones is a member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys and was a member of the Adoption Sub-Committee on the Virginia Legislature in 2005. She was most recently awarded the "Angel in Adoption" award for 2010 by the Congressional Coalition of Adoption. KAREN S. LAW practices law in Northern Virginia, concentrating on adoption and immigration law, with a special emphasis on intercountry adoption. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys and the newly formed Virginia Academy of Adoption Law. Ms. Law is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and has spoken at their national conference for the past three years on intercountry adoption. She also participates in the Loudoun Chapter of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association and is a member of the Loudoun Bar Association. Ms. Law has co-authored numerous publications in the area of adoptions, including, most recently "Intercountry Adoptions": Karen Stoutamyer Law, Adoption Procedures and Forms: A Guide for Virginia Lawyers, Virginia Law Foundation, 2010. She earned her B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Colorado and her J.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law. DANIEL PETRUSO, LCSW, DSW is the executive director of Friday's Child Adoptions Services, Inc. and the president of the Shenandoah Family Institute, Inc. He has been providing services to families and children for over 35 years and has worked with over 400 international and domestic adoptions. STANTON PHILLIPS limits his practice to adoption law in the District of Columbia and Virginia, including an active adoption litigation practice under the name Adoption Legal Services. He has been involved in over 3,000 adoption cases during the past 28 years. Mr. Phillips represents adoptive parents, birth parents and adoption agencies, or acts as Guardian Ad Litem for the adoptee. He handles private, agency, interstate, intrastate, special needs and international adoptions and has represented numerous adoption agencies on adoption matters. Mr. Phillips is a frequent lecturer and a media resource on adoption law. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys where he has served as a trustee and officer. Mr. Phillips has written a chapter titled "Adoption Law, Procedure and Practice," in Family Law and Practice and was a contributing writer to Adoption Law and Practice. He participated in drafting and working with the Virginia Legislature on creating the 1995, 2006 and 2007 revisions to Virginia's adoption statutes and has provided input for various statutes since then. Mr. Phillips also has served as chair and vice-chair for the D.C. Superior Court Adoption Committee. He is a past recipient of the U.S. Congress Angels in Adoption award. Mr. Phillips earned his B.A. degree from the American University and his J.D. degree from George Mason University School of Law.
