PATTY H. ALLRED has more than 29 years of experience as a paralegal and works as a senior litigation paralegal at Jones Waldo Holbrook & McDonough, PC in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her primary focus is personal injury litigation, medical malpractice, and civil litigation practicing in both federal and Utah state courts. Ms. Allred has been an adjunct professor at Salt Lake Community College and Broadview University, where she has taught classes in the paralegal studies programs such as paralegal procedures, basic legal writing, and the CP/CLA Prep Class. She also teaches a CP/CLA Workshop for the general public. Ms. Allred earned her A.A. degree from Utah Technical College and her B.S. degree from the University of Utah. She is currently working on her Master's degree. Ms. Allred has been an active member of NALA since 1994 and was one of 14 participants in NALA's 2007-2008 inaugural LEAP (Leadership Enhancement and Presentation) program. She also has served one term as the Region VII director for NALA,as well as the second vice-president for LAAU (Legal Assistant's Association of Utah), and is an active member of the Utah State Bar (Paralegal Division). Ms. Allred is currently serving as the Secretary for LAAU. JESSICA D. GARCIA is a litigation paralegal and litigation support specialist with the Salt Lake City, Utah firm of Workman | Nydegger, where she specializes in complex civil litigation and litigation support. Ms. Garcia conducts legal and factual research, as well as preparing pleadings, memoranda, briefs, witness lists, exhibits and trial notebooks. She also coordinates and manages document production, organizes pleadings and trial exhibits, and assists lawyers at trial. MARY H. MARK is the client relations manager at Orange Legal Technologies, a leading electronic discovery provider of one source litigation, audit, and investigation support services for law firms and corporations. She is responsible for managing and developing procedures and processes for OrangeLT's new division, attorney/paralegal document review services. Ms. Mark earned her B.A. degree from San Diego State University and her certificate of paralegal studies from the University of San Diego. She has more than 30 years experience as a complex litigation paralegal, was a paralegal instructor at Salt Lake Community College and is instrumental in developing SLCC's course curricula, including the use of technology in litigation. Ms. Mark is a member of the Utah State Bar's Paralegal Division, and the past president of both the Legal Assistants Association of Utah and the Salt Lake Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners. She is a recipient of the Salt Lake Chamber's Pathfinder Award and was recognized by Utah Business Magazine as one of Thirty Innovative Women. KAREN C. MCCALL is a paralegal with Vantus Law Group in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she specializes in insurance defense, asbestos defense and products liability. Ms. McCall conducts medical, legal and factual research, and investigations. She also prepares pleadings, memoranda, briefs, witness lists, exhibits, trial notebooks, deposition schedules and summaries. Ms. McCall is responsible for coordinating and managing document production, organizing pleading and trial exhibits, assisting lawyers at trial, gathering and reviewing medical records, and keeping calendars for cases involving the firm's largest clients. She earned her B.A. degree from California State University, Fullerton, and her paralegal certification from Fullerton College. Ms. McCall is a member of the paralegal division of the Utah State Bar, where she has served as a past secretary and as a finance officer on the board of directors. She is a liaison to the Utah Bar Journal, where she also has had several articles published. SONA G. SCHMIDT is a paralegal with the Murray, Utah firm of Stegall & Associates, where she specializes in insurance defense and patent law litigation. Ms. Schmidt's areas of responsibility include client interviews and preparing pleadings, memoranda, briefs, witness lists, exhibits and deposition schedules. She also locates and interviews witnesses and experts, gathers and reviews medical records, and maintains general client contact. Ms. Schmidt earned her B.A. degree from the University of Utah and her paralegal certificate from Westminster College.
