D. SCOTT CROOK is the owner and founder of D. Scott Crook Law P.C., where he concentrates his practice in the areas of employment and labor, commercial litigation, appellate practice, land use, and water. He has spoken on and written articles about employment issues, jury selection, boundary law, road and access law, law firm management, and appellate practice. Mr. Crook is the former chair of the Appellate Section of the Utah State Bar. He has been named as among Utah Business Magazine's Utah Legal Elite for Labor and Employment since 2005, and was named by the Mountain States Super Lawyers Magazine as a Rising Star in 2008 and 2009, and as a Super Lawyer in 2011. Mr. Crook earned his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from Brigham Young University, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. While attending law school, he received several awards and distinctions, including the Foundation Press Award for excellence in constitutional law and the Scholarly Writing Award. Mr. Crook earned his B.A. degree from Weber State University, graduating summa cum laude. He is a former editor of the Brigham Young University Law Review and the B.Y.U. Journal of Public Law. Additionally, Mr. Crook was a law clerk to Judge Norman H. Jackson, Utah Court of Appeals; and to Judge William H. Woodland, Idaho Sixth Judicial District Court, in Pocatello, Idaho. RUSSELL C. KEARL is a judicial law clerk for the U.S. District Court, District of Utah, where his responsibilities include extensive legal research, issue analysis and legal writing. He taught legal research and legal writing in the Legal Assistant Certificate Program at Westminster College for 20 years, and has given seminar presentations on internet research tools and web resources since 1997. Mr. Kearl earned his B.S. and J.D. degrees from the University of Utah, and he is an active member of the Utah State Bar. JEFF McGOWAN is a legal librarian/legal researcher with Jones Waldo Holbrook & McDonough, PC. He is a member of the American Association of Law Librarians, the Utah State Bar and the State Bar of Nevada. Mr. McGowan earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University, his Juris Doctorate degree from Willamette University College of Law; and he is in the process of earning his Master of Library degree from San Jose State University.
