JOHN W. BURKE is a partner with the law firm of Thomas Braun Bernard & Burke, LLP in Rapid City, South Dakota. Mr. Burke earned his B.A. degree from Northern State University and his J.D. degree from the University of South Dakota. At the University of South Dakota School of Law, he served as copy editor of the Law Review and graduated as a member of the Thomas Sterling Honor Society. After law school, Mr. Burke completed a one-year clerkship with the 6th Judicial Circuit of South Dakota in Pierre. Since then, he has engaged in private practice, focusing almost exclusively on civil litigation. He is admitted to practice in South Dakota, Minnesota, Wyoming and the District of South Dakota. Mr. Burke is a member of the State Bar of South Dakota, the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice. He presently serves on the following committees of the South Dakota State Bar Association: Civil Pattern Jury Instruction Committee, Ethics Committee, Negligence and Tort Law Committee, and Practice Rules Revision Committee. Mr. Burke was recently selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in the fields of personal injury litigation - plaintiffs and insurance law. STEVEN J. MORGANS is a partner in the law firm of Lynn, Jackson, Shultz & Lebrun, P.C. in Sioux Falls, where he practices primarily in insurance law, workers' compensation and personal injury defense. Mr. Morgans earned his B.A. degree from Augustana College and his J.D. degree from the University of Minnesota. He has been a previous in-house lecturer on workers' compensation. Mr. Morgans is a member of the National Trial Lawyers Association, the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association and the State Bar of South Dakota. LEE SCHOENBECK is a sole practitioner and is certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He practices primarily in the areas of personal injury litigation, insurance litigation, commercial litigation, and professional negligence. Mr. Schoenbeck graduated from Augustana College and the University of South Dakota School of Law. In 1984, he established a law practice in Webster, South Dakota and was elected Day County State's Attorney that year. After completing his term in 1989, Mr. Schoenbeck focused on a civil law practice. In 1995, he was elected to a two year term in the State Senate representing Northeast South Dakota. From 2003 through 2006, he was in the State Senate from Watertown, serving as President Pro Tempre of State Senate the last two years. Mr. Schoenbeck is a regular guest lecturer for the Insurance Law class at the University of South Dakota School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in the state of South Dakota, the Federal District Court for the District of South Dakota, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribal Court. Mr. Schoenbeck is a member of the State Bar of South Dakota, the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice. MICHAEL F. TOBIN is a partner with Boyce, Greenfield, Pashby & Welk, LLP. Mr. Tobin has successfully tried cases in the courts of South Dakota. He also has tried commercial and construction arbitrations as a member of the litigation section. Mr. Tobin has defended bad faith insurance claims and products liability claims. He defended an insurance bad faith claim where the plaintiff was seeking more than $15 million in damages. Mr. Tobin is a member of the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association, South Dakota Defense Lawyers Association, Defense Research Institute (DRI) (Construction law, Architects and Engineers Subcommittee, Professional Liability Committee, and Commercial Law Committee), the State Bar of South Dakota (Civil Pattern Jury Instruction Committee and Tort, Insurance and Trial Law Section), American Bar Association and Second Circuit Bar Association. He earned his B.A. degree, with honors, from University of Notre Dame and his J.D. degree from University of South Dakota School of Law.
