SHAWN R. WILLIS is an attorney with Turner Padget Graham & Laney P.A., in Charleston, South Carolina, where he practices primarily in the areas of commercial real estate, creditors' rights, taxation, community associations, real estate litigation, general corporate law and estate planning. Mr. Willis previously practiced in Columbia, South Carolina with Whitener, Wharton & Willis, P.A., and Rogers, Townsend & Thomas, P.C. He represents purchasers, sellers, developers, lenders, landlords and tenants in commercial real estate transactions. Mr. Willis also represents national, regional, local and private lenders, and also borrowers and guarantors, in loan default litigation, including commercial mortgage foreclosures, secured and unsecured commercial collections, and commercial guaranty enforcement actions. He also provides general representation to community associations including the enforcement of restrictive covenants and the collection of unpaid assessments. Additionally, Mr. Willis provides tax planning advice in connection with business entity formations, mergers, acquisitions, asset purchases and real estate transactions, and also provides tax advice related to distressed real estate debt, including foreclosures, short sales, deeds in lieu of foreclosure, workouts and loan restructurings. He earned his B.A. degree from Furman University, his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law and his LL.M. degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. Mr. Willis is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association and the South Carolina Bar, where he is a member of the Community Association Law Committee, and a member of the Tax Section; the Probate, Estate Planning and Trust Section; the Corporate, Banking and Securities Law Section; and the Real Estate Section. He is a member of the Charleston Young Professional division of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association.
