BEN A. HAGOOD JR. is a member of Moore & Van Allen PLLC in Charleston, SC, and a former member of the South Carolina House of Representatives. He focuses his practice in the areas of environmental and business law to include assisting clients in environmental permitting, the purchase or sale of contaminated properties, the defense of civil and criminal enforcement actions, and the resolution or avoidance of environmental compliance issues. Mr. Hagood earned his B.A. degree, with distinction, from the University of Virginia and his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps and as an assistant U.S. attorney. While serving in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2002 to 2008, Mr. Hagood was a member of the House Special Laws Subcommittee; the Coastal Caucus; and the South Carolina Climate, Energy and Commerce Advisory Committee. He has served as outside counsel to South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, and currently serves as a frequent speaker on environmental law topics in South Carolina and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and South Carolina Super Lawyers. Mr. Hagood was selected as a fellow by The Litigation Counsel of America, a trial lawyer honorary society.
