December 8 - Greenville ERIC S. BLAND is a partner in the law firm of Bland Richter, LLP, with offices in Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Bland has represented some of the country's largest residential homebuilding companies in South Carolina, North Carolina and throughout the United States in land development matters, acquisitions, and litigation and arbitration disputes with developers and customers. In his career, he has tried, arbitrated and argued appeals in excess of 150 cases in state, federal and courts of appeal for the state of South Carolina, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals and the American Arbitration Association. In 2005, Mr. Bland was appointed as a member of the South Carolina Bar's Resolution of Fee Disputes Board. As a board member, he investigates, analyzes and forwards to the circuit chair his findings and rulings on fee disputes filed by clients against their attorneys. Mr. Bland earned his B.S. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Tampa and his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. MATTHEW H. HENRIKSON is of counsel to the law firm of Clarkson, Walsh, Terrell & Coulter P.A., where his practice areas include medical malpractice defense, aviation law, products liability, professional liability and general commercial liability. Mr. Henrikson earned his B.A. degree, cum laude, from the University of South Carolina and his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He is a member of the Greenville, Charleston and American bar associations; the South Carolina Bar; the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys' Association (member, Executive Committee); the Defense Research Institute; International Association of Defense Counsel; Aviation Insurance Association; and Lawyer-Pilot Bar Association. MELISSA M. NICHOLS is an attorney in the Spartanburg office of The Wilkes Law Firm, P.A. Ms. Nichols concentrates her practice in business tort litigation, complex insurance defense and products liability cases. She has experience litigating catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases. Before moving to Greenville, South Carolina, Ms. Nichols practiced in Alexandria, Virginia and the District of Columbia, where she also served as an adjunct instructor of legal writing at American University's Washington College of Law. She earned her B.A. degree in political economics from Tulane University and her J.D. degree from Washington & Lee University School of Law. Ms. Nichols is a member of the South Carolina Bar, District of Columbia Bar, Virginia State Bar, Defense Research Institute, Spartanburg County Bar Association and the Women's Bar Association of the District of Columbia (co-chair, Career Development Committee, 2005 - 2007). December 9 - Charleston DAVID W. OVERSTREET is a partner in the Charleston law firm of Carlock, Copeland & Stair, LLP, where he concentrates his practice on complex litigation. A significant amount of his practice is dedicated to defending professionals in malpractice cases, including legal malpractice. He is an active member of both the South Carolina and Georgia bars. Mr. Overstreet also serves on the South Carolina Bar Ethics Advisory Committee, as well as the Steering Committee for the Southeastern Chapter of PLUS (Professional Liability Underwriting Society). He is the hiring partner for the firm's Charleston office and currently serves on the board for HALOS of Charleston. He earned his B.A. degree from Wofford College and his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. RONALD L. RICHTER JR. is a partner in the law firm of Bland Richter, LLP, with offices in Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Richter spent the first four years of his practice in a small firm setting, where he was fortunate enough to have meaningful participation in a variety of substantial legal matters ranging from legal and medical malpractice to death cases. He then began a solo practice focusing on all forms of professional malpractice and other complex litigation. Over his career, Mr. Richter has tried or arbitrated many diverse cases, and has been lead counsel on numerous professional malpractice and death cases. He earned his B.A. degree from the College of Charleston and his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
