ERIC S. BLAND is a partner in the law firm of Bland Richter, LLP, with offices in Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Bland has represented some of the country's largest residential homebuilding companies in South Carolina, North Carolina and throughout the United States in land development matters, acquisitions and litigation and arbitration disputes with developers and customers. In his career, he has tried, arbitrated and argued appeals in excess of 150 cases in state, federal and courts of appeal for the state of South Carolina, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals and the American Arbitration Association. In 2005, Mr. Bland was appointed as a member of the South Carolina Bar's Resolution of Fee Disputes Board. As a board member, he investigates, analyzes and forwards to the circuit chair his findings and rulings on fee disputes filed by clients against their attorneys. Mr. Bland earned his B.S. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Tampa and his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. M. DAWES COOKE JR. is an attorney with Barnwell Whaley Patterson & Helms, LLC, and has practiced civil litigation for more than 30 years. He also is a certified mediator and arbitrator. Mr. Cooke is a member of the South Carolina Bar, the U.S. District Court of South Carolina, the U.S. 4th Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in four categories, and in South Carolina Super Lawyers as one of the top 25 attorneys in the state. Mr. Cooke is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and currently serves as president of the Charleston Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is past president of the Charleston County Bar Association and past member of the South Carolina Bar Board of Governors. Mr. Cooke has served on the Judicial Qualifications Committee of the South Carolina Bar and currently serves as chair of the South Carolina Commission on Judicial Independence and Impartiality. He earned his undergraduate degree, with High Distinction, from the University of Virginia. Mr. Cooke also graduated from the University of South Carolina, cum laude, where he was a member of the Society of Wig and Robe and served as editor of the University of South Carolina Law Review. He earned an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. D. JAY DAVIS JR. is a partner in the Charleston law firm of Young Clement Rivers, LLP where he is chair of the firm's professional liability and business litigation practice groups and serves on its management committee. He is a frequent speaker on issues related to litigation and insurance defense including trial, cross examination, risk management, lender liability, and professional malpractice issues. Mr. Davis has presented to the South Carolina Medical Association, The South Carolina Hospital Association, the Medical University of South Carolina, Roper Hospital, and the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association. He has published articles in the South Carolina Law Review, The Professional Lawyer, For the Defense: The Magazine for Insurance and Corporate Counsel, Federation of Regulatory Council Quarterly Journal of Insurance Law and Regulation, and The Defense Line. Mr. Davis is a member of the South Carolina Bar, 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina, the Charleston County Bar Association, the American Bar Association (Business Law Section), the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association (executive board member) and the Defense Research Institute. He also is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Mr. Davis has served as adjunct professor of law at the Charleston School of Law where he has taught litigation. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of Georgia, M.P.A. degree from the College of Charleston and J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of South Carolina. RONALD L. RICHTER JR. is a partner in the law firm of Bland Richter, LLP, with offices in Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Richter spent the first four years of his practice in a small firm setting, where he was fortunate enough to have meaningful participation in a variety of substantial legal matters ranging from legal and medical malpractice to death cases. He then began a solo practice focusing on medical malpractice and serious injuries. Over his career, Mr. Richter has tried or arbitrated nearly 100 cases, and has been lead counsel on numerous death cases. He earned his B.A. degree from the College of Charleston and his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
