February 8 - Greenville JOHN P. GRIFFITH of Smith & Griffith, LLP, practices law in Anderson, South Carolina and handles cases on behalf of claimants/plaintiffs statewide. Mr. Griffith focuses his practice on workers' compensation, social security disability, insurance and nursing home neglect cases. He was a law clerk to South Carolina Circuit Judge Gerald C. Smoak from 1994 to 1995 and a judicial extern/law clerk to Louisiana 4th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Steven R. Plotkin from 1993 to 1994. Before law school, Mr. Griffith worked for more than three years as an insurance adjuster for two major insurance companies in South Carolina. He has been licensed in South Carolina as an insurance adjuster and appraiser since 1988. Mr. Griffith earned his B.A. degree from The Citadel and his J.D. degree from Loyola University, New Orleans. He practices primarily in the areas of workers' compensation, employment law and family court mediation. Mr. Keller is a former attorney for the South Carolina Supreme Court and a former staff attorney for the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Fund. He is an adjunct professor in paralegal studies at Greenville Technical College. Mr. Keller is the former editor of the workers' compensation volume of South Carolina Jurisprudence. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of Houston and his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina. ALTON L. MARTIN JR. is a member of the Greenville law firm of Martin & Brasington, PA. He has practiced primarily workers' compensation law for more than 19 years. Mr. Martin earned his B.A. degree from The Citadel and his J.D. degree from Mercer University. He served on active duty with the U.S. Army as a JAG Corps Attorney with the 82d Airborne Division. Mr. Martin wrote "Understanding the New Workers' Compensation Legislation", South Carolina Lawyer, Sept./Oct., 1996. He is regularly invited to speak on the topics of workers' compensation and employment law. BOESL is an attorney at Collins & Lacy in Columbia, South Carolina where he is a shareholder and chair of the Employment Practice Group for the firm. His practice focus includes both employment law and workers' compensation law. Although Mr. Boesl's practice concentrates in state court, Federal District Court, and the Workers' Compensation Commission, he also maintains an active practice pursuing alternative dispute resolution for his clients. He earned his B.A. degree from Brigham Young University and his J.D. degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Mr. Boesl is admitted to practice in South Carolina and before the U.S. District Court, District of South Carolina and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar and the Richland County Bar Association. Mr. Boesl is the Employment Committee Member for the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys' Association, Defense Research Institute. DANIEL E. PEAGLER is an attorney in the law firm of McGowan, Hood & Felder in Columbia where his areas of practice include workers' compensation and personal injury. He is an active member and has spoken before the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Educational Association. Mr. Peagler also is a member of the South Carolina Bar, the Richland County Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association and the Injured Workers Advocates. He has previously worked as an insurance adjustor prior to law school. Mr. Peagler earned his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of South Carolina. STEPHEN B. SAMUELS is the founding attorney of the Samuels Law Firm LLC. His practice is dedicated to representing injured workers in workers' compensation cases and victims of injuries caused by the negligence of others. He earned his B.S. degree from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington and his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. As a law student, he was a member of the Order of Wig and Robe, and an associate symposium editor for the South Carolina Law Review. Mr. Samuels was research assistant for Professor David G. Owen, co-author of Prosser and Keeton on Torts. He is a member of the American Association for Justice, the South Carolina Association for Justice and the Injured Workers Advocates. Mr. Samuels has tried more than 100 workers' compensation cases, concentrating on legally complex issues. He speaks several times a year at workers' compensation seminars and conferences. He also is an active appellate lawyer who has appeared six times before the South Carolina Supreme Court and more than 20 times before the South Carolina Court of Appeals.
