GORDON P. CLEARY is a partner at Vetter & White, Inc. in Providence. He has concentrated his practice in the areas of civil and commercial litigation defense since 1977. He has previously spoken to legal professionals on trial advocacy and evidence and co-authors a book on trial evidence foundations. Mr. Cleary is a member of the Rhode Island Federal Court Bench/Bar Committee. He earned his B.A. degree at the University of Rhode Island and his J.D. degree at George Washington University, where he was Order of the Coif. Mr. Cleary is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association, the American Bar Association (sections on: Litigation, Tort and Insurance Practice and Trial Evidence Committee), the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Court, The Maritime Law Association and the Defense Research Institute. BROOKS R. MAGRATTEN is a partner with Pierce Atwood LLP, practicing in the areas of commercial, insurance and products liability litigation. Mr. Magratten is the Northeast regional director of the Defense Research Institute and chairs its Life, Health & Disability Insurance Committee. He also is a member of the FDCC, IADC and ADTA. Mr. Magratten is a former chair of the Federal Bench/Bar Committee of the Rhode Island Bar Association, is vice president of the Federal Bar Association (Rhode Island Chapter) and a fellow of the Rhode Island Bar Foundation. Mr. Magratten is the president of the Defense Counsel of Rhode Island. He earned his B.A. degree from Hamilton College, his J.D. degree from Dickinson School of Law and his M.B.A. degree from Bryant College. Mr. Magratten is the editor of the ABA's ERISA Survey of Federal Circuits. DAVID J. OLIVEIRA maintains a practice in Providence, where he practices in the areas of medical malpractice, personal injury, construction and surety law and complex litigation. Mr. Oliveira has written and lectured extensively on medical, personal injury and trial practice topics for professional and civic groups. He also is an adjunct professor of law and medicine, advanced torts, trial advocacy and advanced trial advocacy at Roger Williams University School of Law. Mr. Oliveira is a member of the Rhode Island, Massachusetts and American bar associations; the Rhode Island Bar Foundation; the American Association for Justice; the American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics; and the Rhode Island Association for Justice. Mr. Oliveira earned his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Bridgewater State College and his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from Boston College Law School.
