STEPHEN M. HLADIK is a partner in the Upper Gwynedd law firm of Kerns, Pearlstine, Onorato & Hladik, LLP, where he focuses his practice in the areas of mortgage law, bankruptcy law and real estate law. Mr. Hladik was in private practice prior to joining the firm. He has spoken for the Pennsylvania Bar Association and conducts continuing legal education courses on tax sale law, foreclosure, title, bankruptcy law and professional responsibility. Mr. Hladik served as the deputy attorney general in charge of the Bureau of Consumer Protection in Harrisburg from 1993 to 1996. He is a member of the Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, New Jersey State and American bar associations, and various sections and committees within these organizations. Mr. Hladik earned his B.A. degree from Pennsylvania State University and his J.D. degree, with honors, from Widener University School of Law. He also has served on his township's planning commission for six years, and is an elected member of his local school board. ERIC M. HURWITZ is a partner in the mortgage and lending litigation practice group at the law firm of Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young, LLP, in Cherry Hill. Mr. Hurwitz has experience litigating claims brought against lenders arising from the origination, servicing, reporting and collection of various consumer credit products such as mortgages, credit cards, auto loans, short-term loans, and other secured or unsecured credit products. He also has handled matters involving title insurance claims, lien priority disputes, and class actions involving financial products and services. Mr. Hurwitz has a full range of experience in federal and state trial and appellate courts, as well as mediations and arbitrations, both regionally and throughout the country. He is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and various federal district and appellate courts nationwide. Mr. Hurwitz also has written on the topic of litigation risk in the wake of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. He earned his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Texas at Austin and his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from Boston University School of Law. LEONA MOGAVERO is of counsel with Klehr Harrison Harvey Branzburg LLP, where she concentrates her practice in the area of creditors' rights and bankruptcy. She has extensive experience representing financial institutions and other lenders in the negotiation and documentation of commercial loan workouts and restructures, as well as in enforcement and asset recovery in situations where a restructure is not appropriate. Ms. Mogavero's practice has included enforcement of security interests in a wide range of assets, with a particular emphasis on real estate collateral, and she has appeared in state and federal courts in debtor/creditor matters. Her bankruptcy practice has included the representation of various parties, primarily secured creditors, in both commercial and consumer bankruptcies, and she has litigated numerous contested matters in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Ms. Mogavero has represented numerous debtors in Chapter 11 reorganizations. She has supervised and instructed associate attorneys and paralegal assistants in the handling of commercial and residential mortgage foreclosures, and has presented seminars to financial institutions regarding loan workouts, collections and bankruptcy. Ms. Mogavero is a member of the Pennsylvania and American bar associations. She earned her B.A. degree, maxima cum laude, from LaSalle College and her J.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. STEVEN M. SCHAIN opened the Schain Law Firm in 1994, focusing on commercial litigation with a specialty in representing financial institutions and defending against consumer lending claims. Prior to opening his firm, Mr. Schain served as law clerk to a U.S. District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and as an associate at Blank Rome. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and received an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell. Mr. Schain serves as a court appointed judge pro tempore and arbitrator, and is a frequent Pennsylvania Bar Institute and National Bar Institute author and lecturer on topics including civil litigation, personal injury, and ethics. He earned his B.A. degree from Pennsylvania State University and his J.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he served as an editor of the Law Review and graduated with honors. MICHAEL A. SIDDONS is a partner and co-chair of the business-shareholder's practice group at the law firm of Margolis Edelstein. He has more than 10 years experience practicing real estate law, business law, commercial litigation, taxation and bankruptcy. Mr. Siddons primary area of concentration involves mortgage foreclosure defense litigation. He represents countless homeowners facing mortgage foreclosure; oftentimes pro bono. Mr. Siddons establishes legal precedent to stay mortgage foreclosure matters, pending before the Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas, utilizing the Federal Government's “Home Affordable Modification Program” (HAMP) applications. He has a 100% success rate in prevailing against lender's Motions for Summary Judgment on the basis of pending HAMP applications. Mr. Siddons has obtained favorable settlements in federal removal actions of mortgage foreclosure litigation by the FDIC, pursuant to its role as receiver of banks closed by the Office of Thrift Supervision. He has extensive litigation experience against unscrupulous mortgage brokers for loan fraud and consumer protection challenges. Mr. Siddons is skilled in consumer bankruptcy advocacy, specifically as it relates to mortgage foreclosure defense matters. He is versed in creditor's bankruptcy tactics, adversary proceedings and relief from stay motions. Mr. Siddons maintains excellent working relationship with firms within the “Retained Attorney Network.” He has litigated title claims in conjunction with easements, HUD purchases, judicial and up-set tax sale matters. Mr. Siddons has been pro bono counsel to U.S. Military personnel for foreclosure matters under the Servicemember's Civil Relief Act. He is a frequent lecturer to real estate professionals, on the issues of mortgage foreclosure, real estate assessment and short sales/loan modification arrangements. Mr. Siddons is a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association. He earned his B.A. degree from Pennsylvania State University, his J.D. degree from Widener University School of Law and his Master of Laws degree from Villanova University School of Law. RICHARD L. VANDERSLICE is an attorney in Philadelphia, where his practice focuses on civil litigation in state and federal court, with an emphasis on real estate and commercial litigation. His areas of practice also include business litigation, estates and environmental law. Mr. Vanderslice graduated from Vermont Law School with his J.D. degree and his Master of Studies in Environmental Law. He is a Graduate of the University of Kansas, where he earned his B.A. degree. Before founding the firm, Mr. Vanderslice practiced in the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area and in San Francisco, California. He is a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association, the current secretary for the Real Property Section Executive Board and a member of the Young Lawyer Division Executive Board. Mr. Vanderslice also has lectured on IRS Code 1031 tax deferred exchanges. In addition to his litigation practice, he advises small to medium size businesses on environmental reporting and impact statements, risk assessment, insurance and reporting requirements.
