MELISSA BUSLEY is an attorney with the wills and estates team at Dunn Carney LLC, where her practices include preparation of wills and trusts, advising clients on estate and gift tax matters, trust administration, charitable gifting, and tax-exempt organization matters. Ms. Busley has experience dealing with complex planning and administration issues such as coordinating retirement benefits and being involved in court actions to modify and reform trusts or to receive trustee instructions on ambiguous trust administration issues. In her work, with tax-exempt organizations, she has advised existing organizations regarding carious operational issues as well as worked with new organizations in forming and receiving recognition of tax-exempt status. Ms. Busley is admitted to practice in Oregon and Washington. She is a member of the Oregon State Bar, Multnomah Bar Association, Oregon Women Lawyers, Professional Women's Forum (Eugene Chapter, 2005-2007), Eugene Estate Planning Council (2005-2007), and Eugene Springfield Tax Association (member 2005-2006, board member 2007). Ms. Busley earned her B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Washington State University, her J.D. degree from the University of Oregon School of Law and her LL.M. degree from the University of Washington School of Law, Graduate Program in Taxation. L. DAVID CONNELL is a partner in the law firm of Ater Wynne LLP, where he advises clients on a variety of transactional matters, including the tax aspects of mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations and financings of public and private companies. He regularly advises clients on tax and other matters involving limited liability companies. Mr. Connell also regularly advises tax-exempt organizations. He received his B.S. degree from Brigham Young University and his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from J. Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University. Mr. Connell is a member of the Oregon State Bar. HEATHER KMETZ is a partner in Sussman Shank LLP and chair of the firm's tax practice group. She advises on matters of estate planning and administration; business acquisition, sale and succession planning; profit and nonprofit formation and operation; and a variety of business and real property transactional matters. Ms. Kmetz earned her B.S. degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and her J.D. degree and Federal Tax Law Certificate from the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College. JONATHAN MISHKIN is the owner of the Law Office of Jonathan D. Mishkin, where he practices in the areas of taxation, estate planning, and closely held business advice. A major focus of his practice is defending individuals, corporations and non-profit organizations in tax controversies (i.e. audits and litigation) with federal and state taxing authorities. Mr. Mishkin's estate planning practice dovetails with his closely held business practice as he advises family-owned businesses on areas of succession planning and estate tax minimization strategies. He also assists with formation, reorganization, division and liquidation, sales and purchases of entities and assets, transfers of ownership, ongoing business and activities, and the filing and obtaining of advances rulings from the IRS. Mr. Mishkin is an adjunct professor of law (tax practice and procedure) at the University of Oregon School of Law. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania, his J.D. degree from the University of Oregon School of Law and his LL.M. degree from Georgetown University Law Center, where he served as a Graduate Tax Scholar. Mr. Mishkin is admitted to practice in Oregon, Texas, Maryland, and the U.S. Tax Court.
