ERIK S. SCHIMMELBUSCH is the founding shareholder of Schimmelbusch Law Group PC. Mr. Schimmelbusch focuses his practice on estate planning and administration, business succession planning and charitable planned giving for clients in Oregon, Washington and California. His clients include financial institutions, professional fiduciaries, charitable organizations and individuals. Prior to forming Schimmelbusch Law Group PC, he was a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, in Portland, Oregon, where he practiced for 13 years. Mr. Schimmelbusch also practiced with Trainor Robertson (now Trainor Fairbrook) in Sacramento, California from 1995-1997. He has written numerous articles and continuing legal education materials on estate planning, business and tax law. Mr. Schimmelbusch frequently speaks on these topics before civic, professional, and educational groups. He received his J.D. and LL.M. (in Business and Taxation) degrees from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. Mr. Schimmelbusch received his B.A. degree from Brigham Young University. He is a member of the Oregon State Bar, the Washington State Bar and the State Bar of California. Since 2010, Mr. Schimmelbusch has served on the Executive Committee of the Estate Planning and Administration Section of the Oregon State Bar. He is also a member of the Estate Planning Council of Portland, the Northwest Planned Giving Roundtable, and serves on the boards of several local planned giving committees and professional organizations. DALLAS THOMSEN is an attorney in the Portland law firm of Sussman Shank LLP, where his practice emphasizes taxation, corporate and business law, estate and wealth preservation planning, and probate and trust administration. Mr. Thomsen works closely with business owners and executives to help them develop the business and address tax-sensitive issues. He provides clients with in-depth tax analysis, evaluation and planning, particularly in the areas of complex partnerships and advanced estate planning. Mr. Thomsen has written several articles and is an active speaker in the area of tax. He is a past speaker for NBI and Federal Tax Workshops, Inc. Mr. Thomsen earned his B.A. degree from Washington State University, his J.D. degree from Gonzaga University and his LL.M. degree in taxation from the University of Florida. He is a member of the Washington State and American (member, Tax Section) bar associations and the Oregon State Bar (member, Business Law, Estate Planning and Administration and Taxation Sections). MATTHEW WHITMAN is a shareholder in the law firm of Cartwright Whitman Baer PC. In addition to trial work, Mr. Whitman handles the majority of the firm's in-house appeals. Prior to joining Cartwright Whitman, his practice included personal injury claims, domestic relations cases, and business contract disputes. Mr. Whitman is admitted to practice in Oregon state and federal courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the Estate Planning Section of the Oregon State Bar and is an appointed member of the Oregon Judicial Department's Uniform Trial Court Rules Committee. He has been a contributing author to several Oregon State Bar continuing legal education publications, including chapters on trust litigation and family law. Mr. Whitman has also presented at continuing legal education seminars on topics relating to elder financial abuse litigation and appellate procedure. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of Oregon and his J.D. degree from Lewis and Clark Law School. Mr. Whitman is a member of the Multnomah Bar Association and the Oregon State Bar (member, Estate Planning Executive Committee). ERIC J. WIELAND is an attorney in the Portland law firm of Samuels Yoelin Kantor LLP. His main areas of practice are estate planning, business planning, taxation and trust and estate administration. Mr. Wieland represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service in examinations, administrative appeals and collection proceedings. He earned his B.B.A. degree from the University of Portland, his J.D. degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law where he was awarded Order of Barristers and his LL.M degree in taxation from the University of Washington School of Law. Mr. Wieland is a member of the American and Missouri bar associations and the Oregon State Bar.
