PAUL A. DePASCALE is vice president and commercial counsel for Old Republic National Title Insurance Company. Mr. DePascale has 17 years of experience in the title insurance and escrow industries, extensively in the transactional and underwriting arenas, primarily of major commercial, industrial, multi-site and multi-state transactions. He also has experience in claims administration, and has functioned as branch manager and general counsel. Mr. DePascale currently acts as branch manager and underwriting counsel and advises the company on legal and business affairs. He has lectured at many continuing education seminars on topics including closings, title insurance and underwriting, and I.R.C. ยง1031 exchanges. In addition, Mr. DePascale has spoken for boards of realtors and local realty companies on title and real estate matters. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association (Real Property Section); a current board member of the Central Ohio Chapter of NAIOP; a past president and current board member of the Association of Corporate Counsel-Central Ohio Chapter; and serves as an advisory board member for the Paralegal Program at Capital University Law School. Mr. DePascale also is a member of the Real Property Section of the Columbus Bar Association, the Central Ohio Land Title Association, the Ohio Land Title Association (Legislation Committee), NAIOP, CCIIR and the Urban Land Institute. He earned his B.S. degree from The Ohio State University College of Arts and Sciences, and his J.D. degree from Capital University Law School. WILLIAM C. HEER III serves as vice president, area counsel and Central Ohio Area Manager for First American Title Insurance Company, positions he has held since 2007. Prior to his current position, he served as Ohio area manager and state counsel for MTC Title Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of First American, since May 2005, following more than nine years with Title First Agency, Inc. where he most recently served as senior vice president for Corporate Operations. Mr. Heer's tenure in the industry includes branch management, underwriting, technology management and many years working on sophisticated affiliated business arrangements and other partnering models. He has written on and provided continuing education courses in various areas of the real estate and title insurance industries, including condominiums, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and the use of technology, as well as recognition of and handling of title and escrow issues. Mr. Heer is licensed to practice law in Ohio and before the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, and the Federal Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. He earned his B.A. degree from Bowdoin College and his J.D. degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law. Mr. Heer also is a member the Ohio State Bar Association and an active member of the Columbus Bar Association and its Real Property Section. DAVID L. VAN SLYKE is an attorney with Plunkett Cooney, P.C., in the firm's Columbus office, where his practice areas include general litigation, title insurance litigation and banking and finance law. As a member of the firm's title insurance practice group, Mr. Van Slyke's clients include insured owners and lenders under title insurance policies and title insurance companies in escrow defalcations, coverage matters and closing protection letters. As a member of the business law group, he represents clients in commercial litigation, including loan workouts and due-diligence reviews. Mr. Van Slyke also has been involved in litigation involving wrongful death, fraud and white collar crime. He earned his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Baldwin-Wallace College and his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. Mr. Van Slyke is a member of the Columbus, Ohio State and American bar associations.
